“Wow- what a gem in beautiful Chiavenna!!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 9, 2014

We stayed in this wonderful B&B in Chiavenna, on the river. It was a wonderful launching point between two fabulous parts of the world...we were able to explore Lake Como a 45 minute drive South and we we able to ski in St. Moritz a 45 minute drive North! The B&B is modern, fresh and comfortable and the breakfasts are superb! Perfect location and extremely comfortable place to stay and to feel welcome, with the added bonus of Italy and Switzerland on your doorstep! Lucky the person, couple or family who discover this gem! Highly, highly recommended!!

Room Tip: We viewed all of the rooms and would be very happy to stay in all of them!

We stayed in one bedroom in the apartment during a family bike trip; the B&B is right on the main road through Chiavenna, but the apartment faces the river and we didn't hear any road noise at all. It's immaculately clean with a huge, very hot shower (a great feature on a bike trip!). And the breakfast was truly amazing; all kinds of pastries, fruit, nuts soaked in honey, cheese, bread, coffee, juice, and more. And Chiavenna is a really beautiful city; we had an excellent and very inexpensive meal at the outdoor pizzeria by the train station. Would definitely go back! Also, there was another guest staying in one of the other rooms and it worked out fine.

We stayed at B & B Al Ponte as a family of three couples in April this year. It worked perfectly for us as it is essentially a three bedroom apartment with each room individually let. We were able to have private use of the space as we took all three available bedrooms. I’m not sure I’d be comfortable sharing a bathroom with strangers if we had been travelling as a single couple.

It’s in a great location, on the Mera river, across the bridge from central Chiavenna (easy walking distance). Although it’s on a busy road we didn’t find it to be noisy. It was lovely to listen to the river and the views to the Alps were stunning from almost every window. Clothilde, the owner, is gorgeous, and really made sure that we had a lovely stay, refreshing the apartment daily and checking in to make sure that we had everything we needed. She is the perfect combination of care and discretion.

She provided one of the most amazing breakfast spreads we had ever seen. Beyond generous in quantity and the quality of everything served was amazing. Over the course of the week we had bresaola (made by her husband in the butcher shop below), prosciutto crudo, prosciutto cotto, fresh bread, the most amazing selection of fresh pastries, panettone, fruit salad and cheese.

Simply the best breakfast we have ever had in a B & B.

Room Tip: Works really well as a family apartment or for 3 couples of friends

We stayed in this family-run bed&breakfast on our Alpine motorcycle tour. We didn’t expect much, but got roomy, clean room and big bathroom. The fact that we had the whole appartment for ourselves helped, it might feel different when shared by more groups.

We missed air-con, though. There’s not much traffic in the night, but close mountain river emited suprisingly strong noise, enough to prevent you from sleeping with open window.

Breakfast, on the other side, was plain wonderful. Clotilde the Owner brought up some fresh bread rolls among with proper, high-quality ham and cheese of local origin. To be honest, her breakfast was better than what you usually get in supposedly luxurious hotels anywhere in Italy.

Overall I can’t reccomend this B&B enough.

If you are 4 to 6 people staying in Chiavenna (its a delightful town) then stay here. Our family of 4 stayed in this 3 bedroom very beautiful apartment and loved it. Its located right on the river and and an easy walk to eating and shopping. The apartment is very modern and very nicely furnished and very clean. We had the host Clotilde provide us breakfast and it was quite generous and delicious. The apartment has fully equiped kitchen. We all loved it. Only downside is it only has one bathroom but its huge and gorgeous.

  • Liked — location on the river, close to everything, modern, parking
  • Disliked — one large bathroom
