“New lease of life”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed February 5, 2013

The Oyster has recently changed hands and the new owners are committed to raising standards and providing a warm welcome to locals and other visitors. The menu could expand somewhat but the food in general was good though I found the fish [fish and chips]greasy.
The bedrooms are warm and comfortable even in the recent gales and storms. The staff were very helpful and pleasant.
A room is available for private functions and the food and drink provided was excellent.

After reading in the local paper that the pub/restaurant had new management we decided to give this lovely little place another try, on our previous visits the food had been very disappointing, on this occasion the food was excellent fresh and tasty and nicely presented, four mains, drinks for four bill came in at £54 good value for money too, keep up the good work and good luck, will be back.

We recently stayed at the Oyster Inn between Christmas and New year with our Bearded Collie Nell. The staff and the management were friendly and very welcoming from the moment we arrived till we left. The room was very comfortable and the Best Dog Friendly Hotel by far that we have stayed in. The locals in the bar were friendly and made for a great atmosphere. Breakfast was magnificent as was the food we were served in the Bar on the saturday afternoon and evening. All in All we enjoyed our stay that much in the Oyster inn that we went back the following weekend.

We visited the restaurant as we were staying in a holiday rental in Connel over New Year. We pre booked for a Hogmany dinner and were advised there would be live entertainment in the bar to take us into the New Year. When we arrived our table was not ready so we were asked to sit in a waiting area whilst they got our table ready. No drinks were offered at this time. The waitress's and owners went back and forward many times before they prepared our table. We were shown to our table and given a menu. We were again, not offered drinks. After a bit of time and watching the staff go back and forward and them avoiding eye contact, I had to distract one of the waitress's and ask if we could have a drink. She went and got it for us. At this point I expected our food order to be taken. This didn't happen. I had to distract a member of staff and ask if we could order our food. Our order was taken. We didn't have side plates for our bread and had to ask but we were only brought one. I watched a waitress setting tables and was amazed by how long it took for the tables to be turned around. The girl kept coming back and adding more cutlery to the table. Our meal was ok. One scallop for a starter is a bit cheeky if you ask me. The all in one steak pie was lovely but not much on plate. We were served a drink at start called atholl brose. We would have liked to have known what was in it. If I had know there was whiskey I wouldn't have drunk it. I was disappointed in the amount of food for the £25 we paid. There was a gentleman diner across from us, who was well spoken but was using foul language throughout his conversation. I was offended at having to listen to this whilst having my meal. Lowered the tone drastically. After dinner we asked for the bill. We had to point out to the owner that we had not been charged for our bottle of wine. In hindsight we should have probably got it free for the poor service and lack of personal touches. My opinion is that the restaurant was overbooked and the staff didn't cope well. After dinner we moved through to the bar. The bar was heavily overcrowded. There was only one poor girl behind the bar. She done well to try and keep on top of things. We waited a while to get served. After one drink we left. There were too many people in a very small space and it was very uncomfortable. The owner said he thought it would have been busier. Really? People were almost hanging from the rafters. Overall a very disappointing Hogmany! Won't be rushing back here which is a shame as we, with friends, are back in the area in a few weeks. Sorry Oyster Inn, but you got your Hogmany event really wrong.

I stayed at The Oyster Inn for two nights over the New Year. The staff were professional, very friendly and courteous, the bar had a great atmosphere and the rooms were clean and roomy. The shower was excellent and the bed comfortable. The breakfast was well presented and delicious, especially the porridge. Breakfast is served in the conservatory which has stunning views out to sea, one of the finest in the area. One minor thing, it would be ideal to improve the sound insulation between bedrooms, which would reduce the noise from other rooms. Overall a great place to stay and I would highly recommend a break there.

We spent a couple of nights at the Oyster Inn as a birthday treat, and cannot recommend it highly enough. The Oyster Inn describes itself as a 'restaurant with rooms', and this is an extremely fair description - it is far more than a B&B, but also not quite a hotel since there is no room service, etc.

Connel is a splendid village a few miles to the north of Oban, that sits directly on a bay on the west coast. The scenery is spectacular Para Handy country of sea lochs and mountains, and whilst there is not much in Connel itself, there is plenty of life in Oban. WIthin Connel the Oyster Inn is hard to miss since it is painted bright blue and sits on the shore.

The Oyster Inn is the name of the main restaurant, but it is closed during the winter months, so we cannot comment on it. However, they use the restaurant area for breakfast, and it is lovely room with splendid views over the sea. The breakfast was also excellent, with seafood options in addition to the standard fried fare.

There is also a pub within the building, which may be called 'Fishermans' or possibly 'The Glue Pot' since both names feature at various places. However, it is a lovely country type pub with natural stone walls, a lovely open log fire and is generally a very comfortable and relaxing place to be. There is a pool table in the bar,and they also serve food, which was not only reasonably priced but extremely good too.

The Oyster Inn has about a dozen rooms upstairs - most of them are in a fairly modern new wing they have built onto the building. Our room was a spacious and comfortable double room, with a decent sized flat screen TV, and a nice en suite with both a bath and a shower. The room was spotless and very comfortable, and at least as good as any of the rooms you get in a 'chain-type' hotel.

The staff are to be commended - they were courteous, helpful and efficient at all times. Richey and his team are to be praised for their customer service attitude. Excellent spot for a couple of days relaxation and watching the fabulous scenery over a nice meal and some drinks.

I stayed here a couple of years ago, and returned, again in winter. This is a lovely place to stay, the rooms are comfortable and clean, food really great and it is the perfect location! The staff are friendly and the open fire in the bar a delight!
