“Spectacular”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 14, 2013

The Abbey and Victorian Walled Gardens are well worth a visit. We visited in September on a warm day. The story of the family was a fabulous love story, though it has a tragic ending. The story of the Abbey is very interesting. The gardens were spectacular and far ahead of their time, when they were first put in. Bring a good pair of walking shoes and plan to spend an enjoyable day walking through the Abbey's open room's and reading the storyboards. Then walking through the many gardens that supply flowers, herbs, fruits, and vegetables for the abbey and cafe. We found it very enjoyable.

“BREATHTAKING!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 14, 2013

We went on a tour with our group and when you are heading into the property,we stopped and took in the exqusite scenery surrounding the breathtaking castle. The castle itself was magnificent and walk down past the castle to the mini cathedral that he had built in memory of his wife after she died. The are both buried in the mauseleum just down the pathway from the cathedral. The nuns still work the property as they bought it but closed the school in 2010.Worth the visit to the Walled Victorian Garden,a shuttle bus will take you there or you can walk to it,about a km or so. Had delicious lunch on premise, sold wine,no other alcoholic beverages(much to the chagrin on my scottish friends-no guiness!).I bought some chocolate the nuns make themselves and they also make their own soap and I purchased the lavender which smells heavenly. There is also a chapel you can go in and say a little pray. The mini cathedral also had candles you can light and say a prayer. The drive along the coast was also very well worth the visit from Galway,approx.2 hours. We got a deal as a group for admission 8euros,I think it is usually 12 euros. Highly recommend seeing this abbey if you are into history and castles!

“kylemore abbey on a beautiful autumn day”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 13, 2013

The scenery is spectacular on the drive from Galway City to Kylemore. The walled garden was wonderful and even better than last year. The garden was very well tended by friendly gardeners who were more than willing to share their knowledge. However the tour of the abbey was a big disappointment with a very bored and boring guide who looked like she hated her job and had no interest in the house or its history.

“Beautiful!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 13, 2013

The view of the house from the road is amazing! It was a wonderful walk around the grounds and walled garden. However, you don't get to see too much of the house as its still used by the Benedictine Nuns, that live and work there. Children under 10yrs old go free, so its still good value, if you like walking!

There is a small chapel and mausoleum on the estate too.

The facilities on site were excellent and not too expensive (food and coffee etc.). The toilets were very clean, although we arrived just as it opened, they may not be so good by the end of the day, as the amount of visitors was amazing, especially out of season.

“Definitely worth visiting”

This was a lovely Abbey, super gardens too.I loved all the history to the place, so easy to imagine in its heyday. The entry was very reasonable too.
