“A weekend of Decadence”

Booked a 3 night break for my husband as a 50th birthday surprise. He was delighted! It included a day out in a restored Citroen 2cv with a very luxurious picnic included. We felt like film stars driving through the beautiful Dordogne countryside being waved at by passers-by. The hotel itself was worthy of a film set and we felt pampered from the moment we stepped across the threshold to a very warm welcome from the friendly owners.
The meals were worthy of a Michelin star and the atmosphere in the dining room made it a very pleasurable experience. Many thanks Arjan and Marije.

Edward1er is a good base for some fantastic walks in the area, Walking guides are available from the tourist office close by. The hotel is good, the menu in the restaurant is limited in choice but what is cooked is good. In town their are various place to eat and also very good quality. People in town are very friendly and very helpfull.

“Fantastic!”

We stayed 3 nights at Edward 1er and had a fantastic time, the hotel is a real gem and the village of Monpazier is just lovely. We took advantage of the evening meals on offer and could not believe the standard of food - Marije should have a mitchelin award. I would highly recommend this hotel.

On our way to Bergerac, we stopped at the beautiful bastide town of Montpazier and decided to stay for two nights there rather than in Bergerac. We found the Hôtel-Restaurant Edward 1er and could not believe our good fortune. This delightful hotel is welcoming and comfortable thanks to the wonderful young Dutch couple, Arjan & Marije Capelle, who manage it. The rooms are air conditioned and spatious and the restaurant is a goumet's delight. Thank you, Arjan and Marije, for a wonderful stay!
