With four friends we wanted to discover the wonderful wine region of languedoc; Maison des Palmiers was a perfect place to spend the night and we can all highly recommend you to book your stay there! Charming people with love for the region gave us a lots of information and made us feel welcome. After having a good night in one of the romantic rooms, we had a delicious breakfast at the terras and could enjoy the pool!

We stayed for 2 nights and it was an absolute delight. The house was beautiful, bedrooms tasteful, pool and garden area splendid and breakfast delicious! Ten out of ten for Denis' homemade jam!

Hilary and Denis made us feel very welcome and we would thoroughly recommend. We shall return....

Tres Bon!! Have just enjoyed 3 nights with our hosts Hillary and Dennis who could not have been more accommodating. A beautiful 163 year old French home, gorgeous bedrooms and facilities. Great location, central to many places in the region. Breakfast was superb and beautifully presented. Dennis is a magnificent chef so suggest you pre order a meal. All in all a wonderful experience. Highly recommended.

Room Tip: All rooms are beautifully done. Large room on top floor to accommodate families.

Just back from a wonderful visit and can't wait to spread the word about this gem in the heart of the lovely Minervois region. Denis and Hilary have lovingly restored the interior of this classically built French villa set in its own beautiful sunny garden complete with swimming pool and even a stream with tropical fish! From the moment we arrived they made us feel really welcome and were full of info about the area - from local markets, to fantastic wineries, great walks, and even the local car boot sale! Breakfasts were sumptuous - wonderful croissants, fresh baked bread, strong black coffee, and Hilary's homemade banana muffins (too many to eat at one sitting so urged to take the leftovers away for a picnic!). And one day Denis cooked us a full Scottish breakfast with square sausage from Glasgow! Under a sunny sky we breakfasted in the beautiful gardens. The pool wasn't quite warm enough to use but it did look inviting and a perfect backdrop for a spot of sunbathing. Our bedroom (with fully tiled en suite with huge bath) had its own private balcony with boxes of bright red geraniums by day and softly lit lanterns by night. What a lovely scene. There was tea and coffee 'on tap' in the guest lounge or served by Hilary on the sun terrace, a great place to watch the sun go down before heading out for dinner at one of Bize's three excellent local restaurants. Great hosts, great atmosphere and a wonderful base to explore the beautiful surrounding area of Minervois. Thanks for making our stay so special and we will definitely be back soon.x

We have never written a review before, why so now? Well because our stay with Hilary and Dennis was so spot on we felt we had to, more so as this was their first season yet still managed to tick all of the boxes for a great stay.
The house itself is beautiful, stacked with original features and sensitive decoration. The room we stayed in was generous in its proportions and came ready with our young sons cot. Although our weather conditions did not allow it, the gardens and pool looked inviting.
For me the highlight was both the sensitive hosting, neither too much nor too little - just right, friendly and informative and welcoming of travellers into a home, thank you both. Also the breakfast, WOW! A heaving table with all things French, the ubiquitous basket from the boulangerie, yoghurts, fresh fruits, great strong coffee and some mad cheese, sorted us out ready for a days exploring. Added to this was an ever ready tea and coffee station invariably accompanied by some fresh banana muffins baked by Hilary. Dennis and Hilary were both fantastic with our young son, bringing out some toys and baby activity center to keep him amused.
All in all spot on, hence my first ever review. My only reservation is that this review may make it more difficult to get a room in the future!!
Many thanks to you both.

Hilary was the loveliest host and an absolute delight to stay with and made the most amazing breakfasts! The location was fantastic and provided the perfect little escape in the countryside during our European tour. I look forward to returning there again in our next trip to France.

Room Tip: Family room on the top floor was superb!

If you are visiting the Languedoc, then Maison des Palmiers in Bize is the place to stay. A wonderful 'real' french house dripping with authentic features yet comfortably modern. Denis and Hilary are the real deal, ready to go the extra mile to make your stay something to remember. They even organized for us to have a walk with the local ramblers club, who took us to some wonderful locations. Bize is a perfect base to visit the historic places and sites of interest in the region, from historic towns such as Bezier, Montpellierand Carcassonne, to beautiful medieval mountaintop villages such as Minerve .

We visited during December, so the pool was closed for maintenance, but it was still warm enough on several days to enjoy the generous continental breakfast outside on the very pleasant garden decking. On cooler days, the beautifully appointed dining room was just as pleasant an alternative to the garden. Bize itself is real community village with regular festivals and activities throughout the year. We enjoyed attending the village Christmas fair which culminated in a carol service in the beautiful medieval church.

Overall, Maison des Palmiers, Bize, and Languedoc should be on everyone's bucket list!

Room Tip: If you are traveling in a group up to six and price rather than privacy is the major consideration...
