“Beautiful ambience and friendly service”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 10, 2009

We recently stayed at this hotel and couldn't have been happier. The building has a wonderful view of the valley, the rooms are lovely and the staff (especially the owner) go out of their way to be helpful. The breakfast was a great start to our day and the room in which it is served is absolutely charming. The town of Hermigua does not have a large selection of restaurants but we discovered that El Silbo (on the road to Agulo) has both outstanding food and serivce.

After staying in several hotels on the island of La Gomera this is one of the best in the mid-price range. Great breakfast, lovely rooms, and a great location for doing those less popular walks. Only downside was the short walk up the hill from the bus stop - but then you get the great views.

This is a very friendly family run hotel, with an honesty bar! It is perched on the west side of the valley and there are good views of Hermigua, banana terracing, the ocean, and Tenerife , including Teide if it is clear.

Breakfast is continental and changes slightly from day-to-day, and is pretty good except the multi-vitamin juice though I suspect that's just me.

Sound reflects up the valley, so that you can hear the boy who thinks he's a cool-dude revving his engine and testing his base in the bottom of the valley. Normally, its very peaceful with just bleating goats, and the cock-a-doodle-do of the cockerels. However, while we were there, there was a Festival which included a "Grand Dance" for 3 nights in a row. These started at roughly 10pm and continued to 3 or 4am. Now remember the cool-dude in the bottom of the valley, he didn't have a ministry-of-sound sound system. Well these guys had, and they weren't afraid to use it. Though this is obviously nothing this hotel or any other in the valley can do anything about, if this is not your thing then I would advise checking out the dates of the festivals before booking; as you cannot expect the proprietors to volunteer the information.

Hotel Ibo Alfaro is really an outstanding property. Ina, the manager, is also outstanding. I have stayed here three times in the past 5 years, and it is always a memorable experience. Great breakfast buffet. On Gomera, you definitely need a car.

  • Liked — quiet, relaxing, scenic valley, not far to beach, gracious hostess
  • Disliked — Being on the side of the valley, a walk to village center and restaurants is not easy.

A warm welcome, a comfortable room, and an extensive buffet breakfast, this is a good choice for exploring the north-west of La Gomera. As well as the bedroom balcony, there are lots of outdoor areas to relax or sunbathe in.
Dinner is not served, so a car or taxi is advisable to reach the best restaurants in the area in the evening (Its an uphill walk back from the town centre)

It is impossible to recommend this unique hotel highly enough! It has gorgeous views, an exemplary hostess for whom nothing is too much trouble and it deserves much wider recognition. I'm almost scared to recommend it, in case it becomes over-subscribed, but the charming owner utterly deserves all the custom she can manage! It's off the beaten-track and run to very high standards of cleanliness. It is an old Canarian mansion which has been restored to a high-standard, it's decorated in a restrained and warm manner, and the main dining room is cozy and inviting - although if the weather's kind, you'll be on the terrace enjoying the glorious vista.

  • Liked — Very comfortable beds with high-quality linen
  • Disliked — Nothing really - I don't like little bunches of fake flowers, but that's just being picky!

Staying here is like being in paradise, you will see. Nice rooms in nice colours, fine balconies with valley and mountain views, good breakfast, wonderful atmosphere, very kind owner, best hikes (for example to Garajonay and/or to the coast) on the island. This hotel is a real gem: for its location, its rooms, its large terrace, its hospitality.

  • Liked — Everything is just how it should be
  • Disliked — There was nothing I didn't like
