This is the Old Station Hotel...very nice building and the owners are making a great job on the refurb. Room was clean and spacious. Staff excellent, service and food very good. A very enjoyable stay will definitely go back.

Hi GT13630

Thanks for taking the time to send your thoughts. I have passed them onto the manager, who will then pass them onto the staff. (They're always pleased when guests are pleased.)

We will look forward to seeing you again soon.

We only stayed here for one night on our way home from a short break in Scotland but it was well worth it. We had bed, breakfast and the evening meal in the attached Italian Restaurant and the food was excellent and extremely good value for money. The room was spacious and once we were shown how to open the window to let in some fresh air we were more than happy with the accommodation. Staff were very attentive and friendly--a good place to stop over. Rothbury is a delightful location which is really handy to visit Cragside House which is an NT property with superb gardens and a fascinating interior to the house

Room Tip: Make sure you know how to open the double glazed windows if you want fresh air at night

My Fiance and I stayed at this hotel last weekend which was a birthday surprise for him. The hotel has recently had a change of management and there are various plans in place to improve it further. Although when we first got into our room there was an issue with the shower we were promptly moved into another room which was perfect. We ate dinner in the restaurant and the food was superb, the waiter and waitress were very pleasant and helpful but seemed quite inexperienced, not sure if they are both new to the role but we had to ask for cutlery and glasses for our wine, the wine we ordered was red and the young girl politely brought it to the table and popped it into the middle without removing the cap or asking if we would like to try it. This did not put us off at all as we all have to learn and like I say the food was superb. Would definitely recommend this hotel and we would certainly stay there again.

Room Tip: Loft rooms are lovely with lovely views from all windows.

Hi Helen

It is great to hear you were well looked after when you stayed with us. Our staff are always trained to do exactly what you mentioned, so I have spoken to the GM who has done a retrain with them. I'm glad this did not detract from the experience, and you had a great time.

We look forward to seeing you soon.

Hi Lindsay

Thank you for the great review.

We are glad You had an enjoyable stay with us, and that the room was to your liking.

We are currently improving the outside, we have hung all of the hanging baskets. and all of the decked area has been repainted and has really nice rattan furniture. The front of the hotel starts this week with new pots arriving and the front garden being over hauled. With regards to the room rates, its always best to visit the website direct for the best deals on the website.

You'll have to come back and see the improvements soon.

Best Regards

Lee

This is our second stay and it wad just as great as last time. We had room two and it was stunning, views across Rothbury just so beautiful. Bed comfy and lovely crisp white bedding. Staff all so friendly and efficient. Food in the restaurant wAs excellent antipast had a lovely selection. My prawn pasta had juicy, fresh prawns and tasty sauce. My husbands lamb casserole was tender and tasty. This is one of the best meals we have had at this price.

Room Tip: Room 2 such fab views

My husband and I stayed here after finding a brilliant deal - minimum of 3 nights (we stayed for 4) at £52 a night. This was excellent value.
The hotel is just a short walk out of the town of Rothbury which is a picturesque little town with a small range of shops and lovely walks to be had along the river. Be mindful though if you plan on doing a bit of shopping later in the day as most of the shops close at 4.00 PM.
The hotel is a lovely old building. We were in one of the attic rooms which are lovely, though a lot of stairs, so if you struggle with stairs, ask for a room on the lower floor. I'm not sure if there are any rooms on the ground floor?? The restaurant and breakfast room are on the first floor and I don't think there is a lift, so you would have to check this if mobility is a problem.
For us, the stairs were not an issue, and helped burn off some of the calories!
The food was very good and they were more than happy to divert from the menu, i.e.: I requested an omelet a couple of mornings and this was fine. Breakfast on the first morning was a bit disorganised with the self service part (cups, bowls, drinks, cereals, pastries etc), not being kept topped up, but the rest of the week was fine.
All the staff were really friendly and extremely helpful and accommodating. Nothing was too much trouble.
The Italian restaurant is very nice with a good choice of food at very reasonable prices. The pizzas are great!
There are a few pubs in the village serving what looked like traditional pub grub, but we didn't try any of them so can't comment on them either way.
We would definitely recommend this hotel and if lucky enough to get back up to Northumberland again at some point, wouldn't hesitate to stay here again, especially at the price we paid.
Rothbury is an ideal base for touring around the area. Be sure to visit Cragside, the Farne islands, and Holy island for great days out.

A beautiful sunny day for Afternoon Tea in the beer garden overlooking the hillside around Rothbury.
The staff were very friendly.
Afternoon tea was good - fresh tasty sandwiches, lovely homemade scones with butter, jam and clotted cream, fresh Victoria sandwich cake, Danish pastries and a big pot of tea with top up.
We really enjoyed it.
Many thanks
