“Fabulous bargain holiday”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 6, 2012

The rooms were small but as Inly a hostel so there were no cooking facilities. Everyone was so friendly and just lovely. The beds were made every day and the towels were changed on a daily basis too by a lovely cleaner who couldn't do enough for us. The restaurant cooked the best food we had although all the restaurants bar the castle were lovely too. Big Al's had the best steak I've had for a long time. The buffet breakfast was approx 20 metres up the road and provided a wonderful, all you can eat buffet, every thing from cereals to cooked breakfast with fruit and cakes in abundance. This is possibly the best budget holiday I have ever had. The only downside was, that it was very quiet of a night time but it is a small family resort. Even the tribute bass were great. I can't praise Sa paisse enough really. Pity about the weather but hey, that wasn't there fault lol

We travel extensively and can honestly say this has to be the worst place we have ever stayed in. The rooms and balconies are minute. We booked HB but had to eat at the sister accommodation 200mtrs up the road.
The food quality was very poor and always stone cold. Hygiene standards non existant.
No sleep before midnight due to the mediocre tribute bands music every night
Beach only accessible via 191 steps or cardiac arrest hill
Cleaning/ towel change very good- but still cant understand why bed linen changed on day 9 of a 10 night stay??!
Staff very friendly until owner/manager appeared when they visibly quaked in their boots.Wondered why until we tried to resolve issues with him and realised how unapproachable he is.

Room Tip: If you must stay here!!? rooms at the back are slightly bigger and quieter

stayed 7th - 14th september 2011
hotel ok stayed in number 5 at the back of the hotel a larger balcony than the front ones which
looked very small with room for (2 chairs only) our room was cleaned every day and the bed made and towels changed (1 large and 1 very small) I think they had ran out of bath sheets.
breakfast was ok nothing to shout about just ok
shows on every night not our cup of tea but people seemed to be enjoying them selfs
we used the hotel as a base and it was good for that
also we had to be out of our room by midday but they let us keep the room until our flight 21.00. tony and gail 45ish

Room Tip: number 5 larger balcony and private

Having previously had villas in the area we were a bit apprehensive as to what quality to expect. The room we had was larger than others have described - maybe the back of the building has larger rooms and clean. The balcony was a good size as was the bathroom. The shower was good and the water pressure was always good. There was daily maid service from 2 very friendly ladies. The beds were on the hard side but surprisingly comfortable. The different breakfast each morning was actually very nice, very substantial and tasty. The weather was very hot so a ceiling fan or air conditioning would have been good but a plug in fan was provided and worked well when the weather dropped to low 30s. We popped into the local Spar to cool down as their air conditioning was great! Sa Paissa staff staff were all friendly and spoke English to various degrees.

Room Tip: There are no tea making facilities or fridge but drinks are available locally.

4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 12, 2011

We arrived with slight trepidation after reading earlier reviews. We wanted a quick and cheap break away from it all.... but with a bit of peace and quiet. We had read that music played till midnight and were a bit concerned. However, as we had arrived at the beginning of the season (1st of May) the shows were not on. The reception was good as very few people in Menorca speak good English (and quite rightly so) and we managed to understand what we had to do and what was available by sign language and a bit of Spanish as they did with a bit of English..
THE ROOM.
The room was tiny (12 ft x 10 ft). It contained twin beds (firm), a sink, a small dressing table and built in wardrobe which contained four drawers. There was only one power point next to the sink ( so bring a 4 way and adaptor). The toilet/shower rom was also small but not too bad. There a tiny balcony (4ft x 3ft) overlooking the pool and stage) The room was well cleaned daily and fresh towels laid out.
RESTAURANT.
The restaurant was good and it was large. It was very popular and the same at breakfast.
The 3 course evening meals were large and of good quality and selection. They came with a free glass of wine. Breakfast was almost as large and very filling. As previous guests have stated, breakfast was different every day but we liked that.
STAFF.
The staff were very friendly even when busy preparing for the new season. The cleaning lady was exceptionally friendly considering she spoke hardly any English and we had good fun learning some Spanish through sign language. "Ola" is said to everyone as a greeting.
MUSIC.
We did'nt get any bands playing while we were there and we were glad because apparently, it is very popular with both locals and tourists until midnight.
INTERNET ACCESS.
There is free Internet Access but the reception is not good in the guest rooms. The best reception is in the restaurant and outside area's nearby. A lot of people took advantage and the restaurant was always very popular.
CHEAPER EATING PLACES.
The Sa Paissa charged 15.95 Euro's for a large three course meal. It was good quality and value for money but,.. there were better prices nearby, especially if you did'nt want a three course meal. Pito's (about 50 meters away) was EXTREMELY good value and a 'Grilled Steak' with salad and chips came on a plate the size of TWO normal dinner plates and was difficult to finish. I managed only twice. The price...only 9 Euro's.
SUMMARY.
A good place to go for a cheap holiday. Good service and friendly staff. Say "Ola" to everyone, every morning because everyone is friendly. Prices are generally the same as as in England.
COMPLAINTS.
Our only complaints were... there was no kettle for a cup of tea and no fridge to keep milk or snacks in.

If you want a relaxed place to stay, Sa Paissa is fine. the rooms are quite basic and a bit small but are clean. The breakfasts are fun, never the same thing twice but don't try to change what you get. you may cause a riot. This small Hostel sits at the main crossroads in Cala'n Porter and although is the centre of the night life (live Bands each night) all is shut down for around midnight. It is a short walk to the beach, all downhill going. The beer at the bar across the road (owned by the same people) is cheaper, so try it out. A week at Sa Paissa is about aslong as you would want to stay although we would go back .

  • Liked — The Cost and situation
  • Disliked — Small lounge area and overlooked at the back (bedrooms)

and that thought would be - do not book here on a bed & breakfast basis! food is below par and guests of the hotel are given different breakfasts than those guests who are coming off the street to breakfast there ( you would think we would all be treated the same and if anything, hotel guests would have preferrential treatment). One waitress very pleasant, another very rude! one morning sausages were raw in middle - yuk! who serves garlic mushrooms for breakfast?! with fried plastic ham?
That aside I found the whole place was very clean. Rooms were small but adequate shower was okay, beds uncomfortable - plastic sheets on mattresses ( not good in that heat)! No air conditioning but fans are provided.
Maid service very good and they were extremely pleasant and friendly. Bar outside at the entertainment area very expensive - better to buy from bar attached to restaurant or the bar across the road.
The tribute bands at the hotel are average but very popular as it is the only place which offers evening entertainment. A plus is you can watch from your balcony if you are overlooking the pool area.
Swimming pool is lovely and very clean - perfect after a hot day around the resort. Quiet during the day and always plenty of sun beds!
I was initially attracted to this hotel because of the reviews but i think there may have been changes since last year - indeed some guests commented that the food had drastically changed since their last visit.
Cala n Porter itself is very lovely, brilliant beach, very clean. Not a great deal to do for the more enthusiastic party goers but if you want a relaxing holiday with the option of a few bars then it is ideal. There is one club here, caves de xoroi, which is fantastic to go and see during the day, it is built into the cliffs and has some amazing views.
would go back to menorca but not to this resort.
