“El Marques (109)”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 11, 2013 via mobile

I have been to El Marques on a number of occasions over a 22yr period and have stayed in various apartments. I would almost certainly go back as a couple, but if with the family (young children) I would probably select Las Rosas subject to location. (reviewed separately)

Location: for me El Marques is perfectly situated, at the top of the hill for both the harbour and Puerto Santiago with access to supermarkets, both behind and across the road. This does mean it's an up hill walk back from the harbour, Peurto Santiago, shops and restaurants though.

Apartment: 107, this one was clean and fit for purpose, although starting to show it's age. 107 had fresher decor and although the balcony is smaller than 109, it's a little higher so commands a better view across to La Gomera. If you have children, the bigger balcony may be a plus.
If I return I will look at villa's in the regions of 117 -119 or around 129-130's. These are a little more modern and are at the front of the complex with good views.

Complex: for the 1st week I couldn't have faulted the cleanliness. But unfortunately the 2nd week I believe they had performed some type of fumigation and there were semi conscious cockroaches running around for upto 3-4 days afterwards. 3 made there way into our apartment, With a number on the balcony. This wasn't good with a 2yr old running around.
Also the decided to carry out maintenance outside the apartments beside us. This was extremely noisy and left dust everywhere.
The swimming pool is clean and inviting, but as we were with family staying in Las Rosas, I would have to say that the pool in Las Rosas was more family orientated and better suited to children ages 2-10.

Staff: polite and friendly when checking in and wasnt required untill checking out.

Hi I have just returned from the El Marques 28/05/13. I went with a friend for two weeks, had the most beautiful apt. the first week (147D) the view from our balcony was to die for. Two B/R Two Bathroom and nice kitchen.
Our second week was not so good at all (85D) no sun a we were looking at a wall, the staff were very good, nothing to much trouble , but could not give us a better room even though my friend owned their and for 26 years.
I really enjoyed it weather not so good, but still came home with a good sun tan.
It is a nice quite resort, very hilly but you go down the hill to the beach, but up on return.

Have stayed here last few years in families time share place!lovely big apartments we stay in a two bedroom, two bathroom penthouse apartment!
Has lovely views from balcony especially in morns overlooking la gomera island!
el marques is not for a wild party like hols everything is very laid back and los gigantes is a quiet area but that suits us!
The pool area is great lovely pool, lots sunbeds and great bar area etc!
lovely friendly staff!!
entertainment in the evenings here arevery hit and miss some are just plain boring and others like gavin the drag artist got everyone enjoying themselves!otherwise some acts were playing to three or four people only!
paella days on weds and sat lunchtimes made by the chef in front of u are delicious and comes with glass of sangria !!didn't eat here otherwise!just had drinks!
apartments are clean and beds some more comfy than others we had to have topper put on double but singles were fine!! maid service great places kept very clean!!

In a very quiet resort, perfect for a relaxing holiday! Very hilly so be prepared for walking up lots of steep hills. Apartment very clean and has everything you need but views not very good (our back terrace faces the back of another apartment).

We have just spent a week in apartment 141C at El Marques and would certainly recommend it and the resort. I had read reviews which said that ground floor apartments had no terraces or gardens so when we were led to what looked like a ground floor apartment I was a bit apprehensive. This apartment though entered on the ground floor is actually on two levels: the bedroom and large en suite bathroom is at ground level with a large terrace which does get some sun at night and on the upper floor an open plan kitchen, dining and living area with another toilet and a lovely private terrace which had the sun from mid morning until sunset: gorgeous. The apartment was for four and had all the equipment required for that number (the living room had a sofa which converted to a double bed) though there were only two of us so it felt very spacious.
The swimming pool, bar, restaurant and entertainment area were a short stroll away and in common with all of the resort were very well looked after.
The receptionists were very friendly, helpful and courteous.
I would heartily recommend El Marques and certainly this apartment to anyone who is looking for a well maintained complex between two quite quiet resorts (Los Gigantes and Playa de L'Arena)

Arrived late on March 22nd and reception was closed however the secrurity guard got our key and helped us get into the room. Bar/Restaurant was still open and they made us some dinner which we took to the room. The location is really great walkdown to Los Gigantes for some great pubs and food or go the other way to Puerto de Santiago for the same and a great little beach. Water was chilly. Grocery store is right across the road and a bigger one is a short drive into Puerto de Santiago. Swimming pool was very warm and wasn't crowded. Try the Siam waterpark if you have kids - rides are amazing!! Overall the resort has a weird layout but the rooms were very clean and the views are great unless you get stuck on the bottom floor where you have a view of a wall.

This was our returning visit after a 5 year break. Why did we wait so long? The apartment was faultless. Spotlessly clean, plenty of crockery/ cutlery etc .It did not have air-conditioning - but it's promised for next year. A great sea view from our two bedroomed, sea-facing apartment. We ate the "Special 3 course menu" on the first evening and then took advantage of the 3 day half board deal. We found the food to be excellent quality - almost as good as 'Mirandas' and 'Jardin Del Sol', but much cheaper. The waiters were friendly, helpful and very efficient. We had a wonderful holiday and hope to return soon- the only downside for us as we get older are the steps.

Room Tip: Ask for a sea facing apartment
