“Some TLC Needed”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 5, 2012

This hotel is in a good area and all the rooms have great views overlooking the water.
I have stayed in this hotel several times and the staff are always great and the rooms clean.
The rooms were refurbished a few years ago and sadly were done very cheaply and it showed- no drawers in the bedrooms and very rough finishes. In the interim I have stayed in apartments, but returned this year as a last minute booking. Unfortunately, the rooms are looking pretty worn and lack of drawers is a real nuisance. I noticed that the toiletries in the bathrooms are now pretty sparce and paper napkins at breakfast tell me there have been cutbacks.
This is a great hotel, with great views and a good position but needs to have an urgent makeover to stay in contention with the Rey Carlos and Hamilton nearby, which have both been refurbished and unless Seth hotels up their game, they will be left behind.

The good things were the cleanliness and the staff who were unfailingly polite and helpful, helping us with our smattering of their language.

The average things were location, abit away from bars and facilities. The furnishings in public areas really need upgrading. Bathrooms had been upgraded but not soft furnishings. Dressing table had no mirror, little things like no pictures on wall made it feel austere.

We had bed and breakfast, which was fine, variety of fruit was diasappointing(tinned mixed fruit), we bought super fruit from local shop very cheaply.

Had an older clientele and I believe Saga holidays are using it next March, this may hve been why the bar areas were always very quiet in the evenings, had a pre dinner drink one night in isolated splendour.

Overall no major complaints, would we return? Probably not, we usually stay in a villa in Menorca and think we will do so next time, only tried a hotel because it was nearing the end of the season.

There are several attractive aspects to this hotel, principal of which is its location, a ten minute walk from the charming little port area of Calas Fonts, which even in mid September, when we visited, had sufficient life and colour to allow for many pleasant hours sipping coffee and watching boats and ducks float by. The views from most of the rooms - we were on the top floor - are very good, either towards Es Castell, or towards Mahon - and the balconies generous. We were on bed and breakfast only, and the breakfast was perfectly adequate - no complaints there. There are pretty garden areas and a good sized pool. However, what let the hotel down for us was the quality of the furnishings - not too bad downstairs in the public areas, but really poor in the actual bedrooms, which although very clean, had a drab, institutional feel about them. If they really are to earn their four star rating, these need to be updated.

Room Tip: Choose a room on the top floor, from 5007 - 5014. Don't buy water in the hotel -it is easy to g...

This is a very pleasant well managed hotel with very helpful and friendly staff. Its location is great for accessing the local town and also Mahon via the local bus. Transfer from the airport is a short journey. Particularly good in the hotel was the evening dinners. Buffet style, they offered a great selection from which you could create your own 4 course dinner. Wine was reasonably priced.
When we arrived we were given room 211 - a corner room. Beware - if it is windy (and I gather it often is) this is a VERY noisy room. Avoid it and the other similar rooms on the floors above. We asked for and were given an alternative room after a very noisy night. Our second room was basic but very comfortable.
I would happily re-visit this hotel.

Room Tip: Avoid the corner rooms on each floor - numbers ending ..11

Stayed for a week in this hotel and thoroughly enjoyed it. Very comfortable, good sized room overlooking pool. Unheated pool but quite refreshing to use after lying in the sun! Food terrific, breakfast choices were the best we've had anywhere...a glass of chilled cava anyone! Just 15 mins walk to the lovely harbour with fantastic restaurants & bars. Nice quiet resort for August with mainly older couples & younger families. The staff in the hotel were absolutely great and the hotel bar area was very comfortable. Almost felt like being on a cruise ship sitting in the lounge as the very large windows overlook the water! The hotel was spotlessly clean with very comfortable beds and great pillows! Very relaxing atmosphere which we loved and wouldn't hesitate to recommend this hotel if you want to completely chill out, eat terrific food and be waited on by lovely, smiling staff.

Room Tip: All rooms have a view of the pool.

Well, I can only repeat what many other reviewers have said. The staff are a real asset to this hotel and the service is excellent. We arrived late due to various circumstances but the girl on reception was really helpful and pointed out that as the restaurant closed in 20 mins (ie at 10pm) we could leave our luggage in reception whilst we went to eat. She had even phoned the airport to be told that our flight had been delayed! When we got to our room we discovered that the light on our balcony was not working (no individual switches, they all come on automatically at 8.30pm). We reported this first thing next morning and it had been fixed by the next time we went to our room. The standards of cleanliness were extremely high and the towels & bedding changed regularly. The wardrobe space was adequate, although a few more drawers would not have gone amiss. The food is excellent, with a very wide variety for both meat-eaters & vegetarians, both for breakfast & dinner. My only gripe was that the air con in the dining room was too cold - a bit of a shock to the system at times! Yes, the vast majority of other guests were British with the odd smattering of German & Spanish - we spotted Spanish flight crew once or twice! There were no children staying in the hotel at all, which suited us down to the ground after a flight full of screaming babies/toddlers. Most of the guests were older than us (we're a couple in our fifties) and many seemed to be regulars. The first week most of the sunbeds had been reserved with towels before breakfast but we had no problems the second week - I guess it's just the luck of the draw whenever you happen to go. Although the views from the bedrooms are spectacular, the hotel itself is in a (nice) residential cul-de-sac and the walk down to the harbour in Cala Es Fonts could be a bit of a challenge to the less able-bodied due to steep slopes & steps. It's easy to walk into Mahon across a field at the end of the cul-de-sac, then round the inlet. It takes about 20-30 mins but you need to be fairly used to walking. The water taxi from Es Castell to Mahon was a nice experience but at 10 euros for a return ticket, we only did it once! The buses are good value however.

Room Tip: Best views are from top floor (5th). The pool view side has the nicest aspect but gets the sun in th...

just back from a week in this hotel -17-24 Sept. Rooms rather small but comfortable and views over harbour fantastic. Pool unheated but can swim off the landing stage beneath hotel in clear warm sea. Food very good and varied (particularly on Sat nights.) Short walk into village with many bars and resaurants around bay. Regular bus into Mahon from where you can get buses all round Island
