After an annoying encounter with an overbearing member of the "Trip Advisor Team" earlier this year I vowed not to return any more reports. To my extreme surprise I then received a plea to continue from someone who has been following our trips around the world. Partly in response to that, I have decided to write about just 2 places we have visited this summer, on the grounds that they deserve to be advertised more widely: one is The White Dog Inn in Ewhurst Green (East Sussex), the other is New Court B & B. After a week in Cardiff it was a pleasure to escape city life and spend a couple of nights in a rural setting. Llantwit Major, although quiet and low key, has a surprising number of good pubs and restaurants, and is linked by rail and bus to Cardiff city and conveniently close to Cardiff Airport (10 minutes, 13 pounds, by taxi; longer but cheaper by train then connecting bus). Also the area has great coastal walking so a good day can be had exercising in preparation for an indulgent night out. The B&B is situated a 10-15min walk from the rail station and 10mins walk from the village centre. It comprises a private flat on one side of the owners' (Ivan and Toni Hodges) house: living room, bathroom, bedroom. Extremely comfortable and well equipped with lots of food (and even a beer) the idea is that you make your own breakfast and leave the dishes for the owners to clean up later. The place is blissfully quiet and makes a perfect romantic retreat. Ivan could not have been more welcoming and helpful. Highly recommended.
