We have just returned from a week's stay at the Club Aura - my Husband, 9mth old baby and me.
Having read the reviews from May I really panicked, but need not have worried, everything at the hotel was fantastic.
The hotel - very clean everywhere, cleaners constantly around. Never had a problem getting served at the bar, and they stocked Bottles of San Miguel 0% which I thought was great!
Each and every member of staff was friendly and really helpful - every single one.
Rooms-The room was nice, we paid for a sea view and it was well worth it. Originally we asked for a quiet ground floor room, but changed this a few days before and asked for an upstairs room and I'm glad we did. Some of the ground floor sea view rooms may have been able to see something, but ,most were facing bushes. We did have to carry the buggy up about 20 steps (often left it at the bottom outside).
The room had a kitchenette in a cupboard, but no equipment. It was great for us having a sink to wash bottles in. The fridge was useful too.
The bed was firm but comfy, and the cot they provided was fine, pleased I didn't pay £20 that Thomsons charge.
The bathrooms were big, and had mini toiletries inc soap, shower gels and shower caps.
Food - brilliant, and I have really high standards. We are used to 4/5* Caribbean, so wasn't expecting much, but I was really pleased. Good variety, hot, tasty food. Despite there being a lot of children there was rarely a queue at the popular food stations even at busy times. The children's food area rarely had anything that wasn't on the main section. Always pizza, chips, salad there!
The coffee machines and toasters were busying a morning. (The coffee machine was only available for breakfast - no hot drinks at lunch or dinner).
Despite the high number of kids the dining room was always calm. Also, we were always able to get the type of high hair we wanted (2types, with and without a table).
Baby facilities - we picked a Thomsons family resort for the facilities for under 3's and it was well worth it. The baby room near the bar/pool was a godsend. We used the microwave to warm bottles, the baby change and there were toys to play with as well (it was air conditioned and there was a fridge, sink, bottle warmer, kettle and cot as well and was immaculately clean).
Soft play room was fantastic, a nice cool room to play in out of the heat. We also went into the crèche for 'toddler time' where you go in to play. They are changing the time to midday, which will be good, but moving it to the baby room, which is a shame. It was good to have a different environment to play in.
The pools were very clean, quite cold but fine once you are in! Around the pool there was little space, it was crammed with sunbeds. Yes people put towels out, but there are always plenty left. We needed 3 beds, a parasol and with space to put a big blanket down and park a buggy. Often we had little option, but always managed to get somewhere to suit us.
The waterpark was fantastic, deck chair style chairs rather than sunbeds, but plenty of space. There is no bar, (and while we were there the drinks machine didn't work) at first I was disappointed, but then quickly realised it meant people didn't go there to hang out for the day)
The slides looked fantastic, but we were just interested in the toddler areas and they were great!
Outside - there a a couple of shops opposites, and a few more ten mins away. We walked into San Antonio harbour one day which took just over an hour. The little beach s 2 mins away and really pretty.
Transfer -took an hour in the bus. We got a taxi back to the airport which cost €28 and about 30 mins.
Smoke! The entertainment on a night was on an outside stage, with loads of tables crammed round - everywhere was a smoking area so it wasn't possible To sit outside without sitting in a fog of smoke - not a great family environment. I'm not complaining that people were allowed to smoke, just that I didn't have a choice to sit anywhere smoke free. Inside the bar was smoke free, but the bars verandah wasn't, so same problem. Also, you couldn't sit and watch the entertainment very well from inside. There were picnic tables outside the baby room, and people were always sat smoking which to be honest was just really rude.
I gave the review 4stars instead of 5 because of this.
Noise - the PR system was loud!! Night and day - if someone was on the microphone the clubs in SanAntonio could hear it.
Bath - the bath had a fixed glass screen which made it really hard and quite dangerous for bathing little ones.
However, those things wouldn't stop us going again, we had a wonderful holiday, it is a really well run hotel.
Sea view. Blue or white block. First floor. As for a quiet room, any facing the pool/bar will be n...
