We recently had such a dissapointing luxury?? holiday at Elounda in Crete that we wanted to go away again. This hotel blows the Elounda Bay Palace out of the water. This IS a luxury hotel. The food, service, rooms and pools are outstanding. We will come back for sure and best of all it is great value for money, we paid 200 pounds per night for a garden room. ENJOY!!

My wife booked this hotel for my sixtieth birthday.

It was excellent in every way.

But perhaps the best bit, was that they made me a gluten-free birthday cake. (I'm a coeliac)

The only strange thing about the hotel is how they make money out of it. I suspect as it's part of a group, they're in for the long haul, so go now before it gets even more expensive.

My wife loved the pool. She is a serious swimmer and hates small pools with not enough loungers.

Just returned from a 7 night stay at one of the Stein Group Hotels near Llucmajor just outside Palma.

We have rarely experienced such warm and friendly staff in a calm and relaxing environment - the epitome of a true luxury country retreat/hotel. The willingness to help particularly when my partner was ill was truly outstanding - and reflected a genuine empathy and high level of care over and above any obligation to provide a service (even in a five star hotel). It is truly commendable indeed that a corporate hotel organistation recognises and embraces the individuality and personal contribution of the individuals within the organistation.

For the prospective traveller, this is an hotel which suits people who seek an escape - secluded, spacious, and quietly enveloped in tree-filled grounds with private outdoor pools.

Palma is 30 euros each way by taxi - those seeking more excitement should stay closer to Palma - but in all honesty we rarely felt inclined to do so!

Car hire is recommended which can be arranged effortlessly by the hotel.

Restaurant prices may be expensive by Spanish standards but compares very favourably with the UK (similar quality is often twice the price). Service is outstanding.

We would have absolutely no reservation in recommending the Hotel Son Julia to anyone and look forward to our next opportunity to stay there.

My wife and I booked a short break in August 2006 as we had previously stayed at the sister hotel, Son Net. Whilst obviously alot of money had been spent on the place it had the atmosphere of a morgue and this was in high season. The bar is akin to a cavernous airport lounge with no customers. Prices are eye-wateringly high. We were charged €11 for a bottle of water in our room. The high price of the food did not match the standard and service was generally very poor.

My wife 'lost' her watch from her room and the hotel's response could not have been more unhelpful. They made no attempt to find it, even though we believe it might have been left in the pocket of a bathrobe which had been cleared from the room by the chambermaid. It was hardly too much to ask them to check in the laundry, given that there could have been no more than 8 rooms occupied. All they were interested in was referring the matter to their lawyers.

On checkout I queried the bill and eventually they accepted that I had been overcharged by over €200. This was done extremely grudgingly.

We visit Majorca every year but this is one place we will never visit again.
