“A very special place.......”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 23, 2013

We have just returned from our annual holiday at the beautiful Hotel Salgar and I can say with all honesty that this hotel has a charm and beauty that is hard to beat. The hotel, pool ,gardens and all the surrounding area is totally immaculate. The breakfast is amazing with a choice of everything you could possibly think of and at dinner you must be very hard to please if you can't find at least one dish you could enjoy.....the desserts this year were particularly delicious, inventive, and of course, home made.

But the real secret of this hotel is the wonderful staff.
From the staff at reception, restaurant, hotel bar, pool bar,to even the wonderful cleaning staff, they ALL make you feel special and will do anything to make your stay a special one, nothing is too much trouble for any of them.

I felt sad to leave them all......and of course, the beautiful unspoilt island of Menorca.

We have just returned from a week at S'algar hotel, I can only agree with the previous positive reviews - it has been the best relaxing holiday we have had in a long time. Food was excellent, situation probably the best in the area. A good mix of English, German and Spanish guests. We aren't old fogies, but we do not enjoy noisy bars and lots of rowdiness (no yobs or screaming kids here), the resort is ideal for a quiet break. There are plenty of activities if you want to join in, but no pressure to do so, my husband went on the guided mountain bike tour which he enjoyed. The kids also really enjoyed themselves. Don't hesitate - just book it - I am so glad I did.

Room Tip: sea view rooms are lovely, but the other garden rooms are just as good- probably less traffic noise

I agree I cannot understand the review from the American having my wife and I just returned on July 15th from a 7 night wonderful stay at this hotel/resort. The bedrooms and all the communal rooms are spacious and spotlessly clean which are kept that way on a daily basis. We had a sea view room on the 1st floor with a balcony (No 208) which i can recommend.

All the Staff from Reception/Restaurant and the Bar are courteous, friendly and very professional who work hard to make your stay enjoyable....to sum up they make you feel important.

The food in the restaurant at breakfast was very good with all the usual choices i.e. coffee, tea, eggs, bacon, sausage or croissants, pastries, cold meats or fruit etc depending on your preference. The evening meals were also of a high standard with plenty of choice with salads, meat or fish dishes something to suit all tastes and different choices each evening.
I have to admit to being a fussy eater but never found anything I could not enjoy and the desserts were truly scrumptious.

There is a large fantastic pool just across the road and residents at the hotel have their own reserved lawned area where there are plenty of sunbeds overlooking the sea, there is also a snack bar serving drinks/food by the pool.

There is no beach but it does have a nice man made lido area with sunbeds giving direct access to the sea for swimming/snorkelling with several assortments of fish to observe....if you want a beach you can walk to a nearby one at Cala Alcafaur (about 15 mins) but we prefer not having any sand accumulating everywhere.

The resort itself is fairly quiet with just one other hotel (which caters more for family/children) and a couple of shops, bars /restaurants in the square plus the "Dinky Bar" for a late nite session if you want, it is ideal for couples of all ages who prefer a chill out time coupled with excellent food and accomodation.

Have no hesitation in recommending this hotel in fact it is such a gem am not sure I wish to give it away......we will definately be back sometime in the future as Menorca is a wonderful Isle and the S'algar Hotel is absolutely first class and merits it's 4 star rating

Room Tip: Choose a Sea View room on the 1st floor and the option of the safe for 2 euros a night is well worth...

We have just arrived home and would like to give an honest opinion about this lovely hotel. I agree with the last post the hotel is great and we were very pleased with the location. The staff throughout the hotel were all very friendly and always ready to help. The dining room was very well run by efficient staff who worked very hard and were always friendly and polite you never had to wait for a table and it was kept spotlessly clean at all times. The food was very good at breakfast and in the evening we really enjoyed our meals and I am quite a fussy eater although I personnaly would have liked a bigger choice but always found something I liked. The rooms are kept spotless and are very comfortable and as said before satelite t.v. fridge also a safe ( small charge for the safe ) Powerfull shower loads of hot water and a lovely modern and clean bathroom. I would recommend this hotel to anyone we loved it one small point it seemed to cater mostly for adults not many kids the kids all seemed to be staying in Saint Luis Hotel up the road or Las Palmeras Apts at the back of the resort so if you were traveling with kids I personally dont think the S'Algar Hotel would suit. We would not hesitate to recommend this hotel to friends and family and would definately go back to this hotel if we went back to this area of Menorca . I hope this honest review is helpful to other T.A. users I know how much I rely on reviews form T.A. when trying to choose a suitable hotel

Dear guest,
thank you very much indeed for writing such a nice review about our Hotel.
You are right in noting that S'Algar Hotel is better suited for adults than for children: in fact, it is an Adults Recommended Hotel, and for Summer 2014, it is planned to become Adults Only. Families will be especially comfortable staying in Apartamentos Las Palmeras and in Hotel San Luis during their holidays!
We are very happy to hear you had a nice stay in our Hotel, and hope to see you again soon!

From my recent experience the review entitled ‘The worst hotel in Spain..” must be either malicious or refer to another hotel entirely. Because this is a very good hotel indeed. My wife and I stayed here for five nights from 29th June.

We paid for a basic room and it was absolutely fine Reasonably spacious with balcony overlooking a very quiet street. Good sized bathroom with large towels and good supply of soap, gel etc. And cleaned properly every day.

The restaurant is spacious with wonderful sea views and opens for evening meals daily at 7.30pm!. The food was of good quality and variety.

The public areas are light, airy and welcoming. The pool bar serves snacks such as hamburgers, rolls, sandwiches ice cream etc. as well as drinks of all kinds. The lobby bar is delightful and drinks are reasonably priced. Noisy it is not!

Service everywhere was excellent. Reception, restaurant and bar staff all worked hard to make our holiday a success.

We’ll be back.

Don’t believe a word you read from the “Worst hotel in Spain ….etc.” below,

My wife and myself have stayed at this excellent hotel in May of this year and 2012, and are planning to return again in September. Staff are welcoming, smart and friendly but professional at all times, the food is excellent and the dining room staff are lovely. The rooms are spacious, with satellite tv, air conditioning, balcony etc. there is a good size fridge to store drinks and any snacks
