“Relaxing Day out from Rome”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 8, 2014

This is a quiet day out from Rome and costs 1.50 Euro each way on a Metro ticket. Entry is 8 Euros unless you are a concession - which is 65 not 64 as it says on the site pdf document. This is an interesting site full of almost complete buildings. The site map 2 euros is just a map so you need access to other sources of info to explain the buildings. It is recommended that you take a picnic except there is an absence of seats until you get well into the site, (at the Forum and in the Forum baths). A lot of the site is fenced off due to flooding, not surprising considering the history! After the Vatican and the Colosseum it is delightful not to be surrounded by people in a rush following a flag, or selling trash. (Just a busker on the train).

“BREATHTAKING ROMAN RUINS”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 3, 2014

Take the train for 6 euros return from the termini and step back in time to one of the most amazing sites you will ever see. A huge insight into Roman life and a must see away from the city. Wear good shoes and allow a few hours to appreciate this quiet gem. Coffee shop and food at very reasonable cost .The ancient town of Ostia was once the main port into Rome, you can freely wander in Roman shops, homes and the theater with no restriction and marvel at the advanced society when us Brits were living in wattle and daub huts. Why people miss this superb insight into history is beyond belief-ITS A MUST SEE and well worth the train ride to marvel at Roman history and magnificence.

“Possibly better than Pompeii”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 1, 2014

Ostia Antica is only just outside Rome, which means it is ideal to visit if you are having a short city break and want to get away from the hustle and bustle of Rome and it can be reached easily by train from Rome Termini.

The site is huge! Wear comfortable shoes, you will need them. There are shops and crypts that you can walk inside. Mosaics are still where they were first laid. You can really explore this site in a way that you aren't able to at Herculaneum or Pompeii.

What is amazing is how quiet the site is. When you consider that despite being so close to Rome and beside the modern seaside resort of Ostia, it should be packed with tourists but it isn't.

“Fantastic visit”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 22, 2014 via mobile

Easy to find and travel to. Quality of ruins superb, even though a section is currently closed due to flooding. A close rival to the more well known sites further south. Food in cafe was ok - so take sandwiches.

“great roman ruin town just outside the city center”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 13, 2014

This site it is a must to visit when in Rome. If you have short time and cannot go to Pompei you just go to ostia antica. It is an archeological site where you can see how a roma town was like with its forums teather, anphiteather, stores,... etc Also to go there it is easy. You can catch the train to Ostia at Piramide station of line B (blu metro line) or garbatella station of both train and B metro line and then get off, after a little time, right in Ostia antica station then you arrive waliking to the ruins entrance. There is a ticket to pay but it really worth
