Had an excellent bottle of house white and raw tuna and grilled sea bass all done excellently. The Home made capitelli with sage and butter was excellent as well. Very friendly staff and owner. Would go again

“Delightful Lunch”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 15, 2013

The four of us walked into the modern city of Ostia after spending several hours walking through the ancient city, we decided to grab a lunch before catching the train back to Rome. We chose Monumento after walking through the town based in part on the number of other people (generally locals) eating there on a rainy Sunday afternoon when tourists were scarce. It was a great choice.

One of our party has a food allergy and we had carried a translation of the issue on a card. When the server read it, she brought out the manager and assured us that the food would be prepared that would avoid even the remote chance that we would end up with a medical issue and they delivered on the promise.

The rest of the party ordered variouspastas, all great. I was lucky enough to order the mussels with spaghetti and was served what I think was the best I have ever eaten. My wife chose the spaghetti carbonari and thought it fantastic. Our friend with potential allegic reactions was brought a great parchment wrapped baked fish that resolved any allergy issues. The house red is a nice, somewhat sweet wine that went well with the pasta. Cappuchino after the meal was terrific as were the dessets.

Great service, friendly staff, but most important they went the extra mile to deliver a great experience to foreign visitors.

“For lunch, a wonderfully peaceful and friendly bistro.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 23, 2013

We paused for lunch before visiting Ostia Antica in this quietly situated and charming restaurant. The staff were efficient, unobtrusive yet happily helpful and conversational. Our food was delicious, the house wine perfectly complementary, both very reasonably priced. The proprietor particularly made us feel very welcome. Thank you all at Il Monumento. A wholehearted recommendation.

“Amazing.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 11, 2013

I moved to Rome this past November and have been to a fair share of restaurants, but this meal I have got to say was the best. Not just in terms of food, but also in terms of ambiance, location, and service. They sat us outside on a lovely patio and made room to accommodate for our large group of 10+ people. The people working there are lovely and provided us with not one, not two, but three free pitchers of white wine. And not the watered-down, foul tasting house wine you'd normally expect when the word 'gratis' is involved, but crisp, wonderfully fresh white wine. The food was amazing. I'm allergic to all types of foods, but they were super accommodating. I highly recommend the fried calamari (we were by the beach after all), which was super tender and chewy and fried to perfection. The desserts were amazing too, and they even gave me a whole plate of each and every one of the desserts (tiramisu, panna cotta, apple cake, etc.) for just 4 euros! Even better they gave us all a giant free pitcher of the most amazing grappa we have ever had as an after meal drink. So good! We even tried to take it home with us! We got to restaurant expecting to just grab a quick meal before racing off to see the ruins and then to the beach, but ended up staying there for over 3 hours!! We had that amazing of a time - we seriously never wanted to leave. And the service was extraordinarily fast, which makes us staying there that long all the more impressive. The restaurant is very convenient as well, located right off the main road a mere minute or two from the ruins. I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone going to Ostia Antica, or even to those just going to Rome. It was hands-down the most enjoyable. good-tasting meal I have had yet - and we all plan to return very. very soon!
