“Don't miss out on this gem!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 13, 2013 via mobile

Dined here with two friends, I can't recommend this restaurant enough! The waitress was extremely kind and friendly, explained the whole menu to us and had a chat with us about where we were from! We ordered sirloin steak+salad. The steaks were succulent, and cooked perfectly, the salads came with a choice of dressing and were fresh and delicious. Large glass of wonderful house red to top it all off! Fabulous...the waitress even hugged us on the way out+thanked us for our visit ;) It was brilliant, thanks for a wonderful meal+ evening.

“What's all the fuss about?”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed January 13, 2013

I saw all the gushing reviews and thought we'd try it as we're staying just up the road. We ate there last night.

It's not bad, but it's not special. It's located at the wrong end of the harbour, so there only glimpses of the harbour and boats. The outside tables were set out attractively with large candle lanterns and potted plants. There was pleasant boss nova music playing quite loudly - but it needed to be loud to try and drown out the clashing music from a bar just along the walkway. It failed. The inside lacked atmosphere and decor. The side we sat (it was a cool evening) had spare wine boxes stacked against the walls. It was difficult to see the other side as it was dominated by a large bright television. We were asked if the music was too loud (no) but the TV had been requested by a shaven headed, grossly obese Englishman whose addiction to Spanish Soccer enabled him to avoid talking to his wife. The TV stayed on when they left.

The menu was explained as other reviews state. The service was attentive. They brought excellent bread and dips (3 euros). The empanadas were tasty, the salad and steaks cooked beautifully - my wife's fillet was excellent, my rib-eye average. The portion of rosemary baked potatoes ("enough for two") amounted to seven wedges. An obscure (Argentine) traditional cake deserved its obscurity - but was just as described. Really good coffee. Our bill was 90 euros - including one bottle of wine. We would have had to really tried hard to reach the 120 euros that others mention.

Best steak ever - no, not even on Lanzarote. If we want a steak on the island we'll go back to Las Cadenas in La Vegueta where four of us had really good steaks and a wonderful Spanish atmosphere the previous Saturday.

“Steaks-just fab”

Wonderful meal in Dec 2012. Flo is so helpful, and the wine recommended was not the most expensive, which makes a change. If you're nearby, make sure you go. Best steak and potato risto was just amazing.

“Terrific food and service!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 8, 2013

We decided to try La Portena on the last evening of our holiday in Lanzarote, based on the reviews we'd found on Tripadvisor and we were not disappointed! The service was pleasant, enthusiastic, and very helpful, with a full explanation of how the menu worked as well as suggestions based on some chat with us. The steaks were tender, perfectly prepared, and the chimichura sauce added that little bit of zest that truly made the meal memorable. The wine selection was also very good and the prices were completely in-line for the quality of food and service, which is high. We've both decided that La Portena may have been our best holiday treat ever!

“A great evening meal whilst on holiday”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 6, 2013 via mobile

The waitress explained the menu in full to enable you to experience the type of food available.
The service and food was of a very high standard and one of the best steaks I have had for a long time.
The atmosphere was relaxed and comfortable and I would have no hesitation recommending this restaurant if in the area.
