“Warm familiy Lodge with great hospitality”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 7, 2010

This place is really nice, because the family who runs the lodge are great. We were just one second out of the car or they introduced themselves. You feel right at home, the rooms are nice decorated with flowers and we had a great view over Damara land. The family was very flexible and beacause we didn't see a lot on the safari trip, we went for free for the second time. They could tell us a lot about the history of the land and funny stories about the lodge, were they grew up. They even let me drive the really old safari car! Also the dinner was nice, just good food and variety. When you visit Rustig Toko you get the warm feeling of family. And the little things like cleaning the car makes the visit more special.

We were a group of six friends travelling from South Africa on a 4x4 excursion to the Kaokoland in Namibia. We had a set travel plan in mind with the locations we wanted to visit, but decided not to book our accommodation in advance. We wanted to get a true flavour of the Namibian culture, and intended to stay at local lodges and campsites that people in the area recommended. Upon arrival in Windhoek an old friend insisted we say at Rustig Toko Lodge after he learned that we intended to spent the next night in the Kamanjab area. He visited the lodge resently and highly recommended we make it our home for the next night - and we were so glad we did!!
Upon arrival we were met by Duno who manages the lodge. He gave us a short tour of the premises and helped us settle into our rooms overlooking the pool and breathtaking scenery in the background. Our rooms were spacious, very neat and tastefully decorated with interior reflecting local Namibian art and crafts. While the men splashed in the pool after a long day's drive, Duno chatted to us ladies whilst he prepared "Potbrood" - a local treat of freshly baked bread in the fire. We enjoyed a drink on the deck watching the sun go down, followed by a scrumptious meal later that evening. We all felt we were treated like family, rather than strangers visiting a lodge. Duno's brother Hindie and his wife Marie who co-owns the lodge also joined us later that evening and shared interesting information about Namibia and gave us advise on what to see and do in the Kamanjab region.
Early the following morning we embarked on a game drive viewing beautiful parts of their 6000ha farm. We saw numerous wild animals on our trip and found the information we received whilst on the game drive very knowledgeable and interesting.
I will most definitely recommend this lodge as it was a truly Namibian experience with warm hospitality, rather than just another stay on a lodge in a foreign country.

Looking out for a nice and reasonably priced place to celebrate Christmas at, we (group of 5 friends) spontaneously ended up at Rustig Toko Lodge. And so grateful we did! What a lovely place, especially the very warm welcome and personal service from the new lodge owners, Danou and his family: passionate enthusiastics with a heart for hospitality! The spacious rooms offer superb views from the private veranda/balcony; enjoying a stunning sunset whilst sipping your cool drink just before dinner is served at the main house is definitely an effective appetizer. The family style food, served as a buffet, was absolutely great and there is always something for everyone's personal taste (my favourite: baked pudding with home made custard). Dining with all guests, seated together at a few big tables (including the owners family) near the fire place and under the thatched roof, definitely added to the social and relaxing ambiance; and still we had enough privacy to enjoy our own company: its just like coming home! Can't wait to go back there... (Saskia, Amsterdam, The Netherlands)
