“Interesting hotel in great location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 16, 2010

This is an old castle in the centre of La Malene. Quite old internally but very clean and well presented. Great restaurant. Ate outside on terrace. Room not very spacious but reasonable for the price.
Located by the bridge at La Malene and handy for all activities. Try the canoeing down the river. Tarn Gorge is spectacular.

In the heart of the Gorges du Tarn, perfectly located in a village, the old "manoir" has some charm. The rooms are more dated than charming though. The view is fabulous, the restaurant in the garden charming, the staff nice, the food almost good. A nice stopover in the region.

5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 25, 2009

My husband and I decided to take a walk one late afternoon while visiting the magnificent Gorges du Tarn.....5 kilometers later we happened to see Manoir of Montesquiou and decided to eat there since everything about it looked so inviting. The meal was scruptious and the wine suggested by the host was extremely savorous.
When came time to leave, dusk was upon us and I didn't feel like walking so I asked the hostess if we could get a taxi. There isn't a single taxi in La Malene we were told; However, the hostess suggested that the owner of the Manoir could take us back to Le Chateau de la Caze. My husband and I declined this kind offer but as we were leaving the owner insisted and gave us a ride to our hotel....... what savoir faire!

It is hard to rate this hotel (under the TripAdvisor system) because it is by no means conventional. In other words it is an old Château converted to a hotel - with all that this implies.

We had originally decided to book a 2-night stay at the similarly converted hotel in the Tarn Gorge - the Château de la Caze - but were put-off by somebody's review on TripAdvisor describing the difficulty of getting there. So we booked here instead. But the journey to both is hardly any different and we found no problems.

Being a conversion I guess a lot of the rooms are very dissimilar. Ours was two stories up the circular stone tower staircase and comprised a large bedroom tastefully curtained off from a very nice sitting room. It displayed a sort of faded grandeur, but this doesn't imply that it was 'tatty' at all.

The double room at 142 euros wasn't excessive considering this is a popular holiday destination although the breakfast at 24 euros did set something of a record!

The restaurant was perfectly satisfactory and reasonably priced.

Would we stay there again if passing that way? I'd certainly have no objections although from just the outside view I think I'd give the Ch. de la Caze a try first.
