“Erdoba Evieri”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 9, 2014

We stayed at the Erdoba Evieri on a Troy Tours tour of Eastern Turkey. The food was good and the view fantastic, though we did wait an hour to be served on one occasion. Unfortunately, we stayed on a holiday weekend and every hotel room in the city was filled. We went down more than 100 steps and along confusing narrow streets to get to our room. Internet was intermittent or totally down for most of our stay.

Room Tip: If you book here, insist on staying in the main building!

Erdoba Evleri is a wonderful place to stay in Mardin. The view of the plain from the terrace is stunning. The staff are really friendly and helpful and serve you tea whenever you sit down. The rooms are private and very quiet. Also impressive is the breakfast buffet with lots of selection. This is a professionally run hotel that offers great value for money!

Room Tip: rooms with a view are especially nice

The oldest boutique hotel at Old Mardin. But still no improvement. The rooms at the main building are small, ugly and overpriced. The rooms at the other two old houses well... I can't say "overpriced" they are sky rocketed like 200 - 300 Euros. Somebody must teach them the real meaning of a boutique hotel.

the service was non existent, the rooms smelled like smoke. the food at the restaurant was very average and expensive. the room was extremely cold as we entered. the room was extremely cold when we checked in and took an hour for the heater to make it comfortable enough that we could remove our jackets. there was a lot of noise at night from other guests slamming doors and talking in the hallways. in a boutique hotel these things should be controlled better. the erdoba has a good reputation but i found nothing to like, let alone love.
the rooms could have been any room at a motel 6.

The hotel is one of the finer places to stay. Rooms are comfy, though small. The food is average, late and cold. No alcohol is served in spite of the gorgeous view that begs for a glass of anything. Overall, a place to stay, but not enjoy.

This is a boutique (here, "butik") hotel and charges accordingly, but I found it poor value. We took two double rooms in the main hotel (Ottoman Konak). The rooms were fine, but certainly not charming and picturesque as I had expected. The walls looked and felt like cinderblock; the rooms were fairly small and slightly smelly; and even though one of them had a great view over the Syrian plain, no way to enjoy it (small window, nowhere to sit). The TV only shows Turkish stuff. The breakfast was absolutely abysmal. We also had lunch on the terrace once and it was pretty good, though a bit slow on service.

The worst part of the whole thing was that a huge group of youngish Turkcell managers were having a conference here. In the evening they would hang out on the main terrace and make a lot of noise. Most of the rooms are right below it and so all this noise is impossible to get away from. Also if anyone is hanging out in the small courtyard between the two wings of the building, it gets noisy. Also, a mosque is very close by, so, again, lots of noise when the muezzin calls for prayer. Overall, very poor sleep quality.

We stayed during the new years weekend 2012. The incredibly friendly staff was one of the reasons why we enjoyed our stay so much. We stayed in the main house where the rooms have no view and it being winter we couldn't really enjoy the terrace, but still the view hits you everytime you walk in the building or leave your room. The food at the hotel's restaurant is amazing - delicious and very reasonably priced. The view from the terrace is beautiful and the hotel is located conveniently in the old town where you can walk to most of the museums, mosques and churches. We had one little problem - the hotel is alchol free, so on new years eve to make a toast we had to go back to our room and share a bottle of wine bought at the suryani wine vendors - from a few doors down on the same street -. We are not alcoholics but some celebrations do require a glass of liquor of any sort
