“Just another B&B”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 17, 2013

Nothing special with "Le cheval blanc". The hotel is well located at the heart os Normandy and they offer very simple rooms and a good breakfast. We were a group of 5 and we received 2 rooms ,also the usual with B&B's of that style.

We were very warmly welcomed.
The bedroom was up a metal spiral staircase in the eaves of what was originally a barn. It was clean, had a comfy bed but was uninspiring.
The town is small and as we didn't want to travel too far we ate in the restaurant (the only one open in town). We opted for the 23 Euro menu which I felt was expensive for what we had. It was good that there was a childrens choice and also a teenagers choice though.
We didn't stay for breakfast as most of my family don't drink tea or coffee so a trip to the local bakery for fresh pain au chocolat every morning surficed and saved a small fortune over a fortnight.
We had said no to breakfast when we checked in but the gentleman we checked out with had obviously not been told this, which did seem to displease him a little.
Out of 8 French hotels we stayed in over the fortnight this was the only one to charge for internet access.

5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 30, 2013

We stayed 1 night. A small village just off the road to bridge Pont Eveque on way to Le Havre. Easily accessible. The room was situated in a wooden building at the rear of the main building among a number of other rooms. It was simple but perfectly adequate and clean. the bathroom was fine and bed comfortable, The room had cable TV (unusual for this price), a table and 2 chairs outside in semi private area, and even a bottle of water (never had before in modest priced French hotel/inn). The welcome was very warm by a delightful owner, who seemed to greet guests, took orders, served dinner and looked after her young daughter all at the same time, in an absolutely unflustered way. Dinner was in a very charming dining room, nicely decorated. A reasonable length a la carte menu and 3 fixed priced menus. A strong focus on local produce, with pride that all meals made in house. Excellent quality v price for E26, E32 and E36 prices. Had one each of latter 2. Home reared fois gras delicious, St Pierre (John Dory) fish in champagne sauce - perfect, my wife ate my course of local cheeses!, and I finished with an incredible souffle Grand Marnier (in between was a small green apple sorbet with a shot of calvados!). My wife had a duo of smoked salmon tartar and crevettes, a pink magret of duck and the souffle. Wines were very well priced and house recommendations just right. Bill plus aperitif drinks, wines, coffee was about E100. A typical breakfast with home made jams and yoghurt was E7 each. In all a great find that deserves support for its uncompromising use of local produce, home made foods and fantastic prices. The welcome is really sympa and the husband is a pretty good chef! Highly recommended.
