Hub and I went here on a very rainy day in May. Having lunch is what we do when the heavens open on holiday!
I asked our hotel receptionist to book us a table. As a local he said I must be wrong about the name because he knew Cala Llonga like the back-of-his-hand; he had never heard of it so I must have made a mistake! I managed to produce the restaurant details (after a trip back to our room) and he rang to book us a table. Valverde did exist and they were open for lunch! Many other Cala Llonga restaurants are only open for dinner. As it was still pouring we went by taxi.
Five minutes later we were seated in a cute little restaurant overlooking a good sized swimming pool. Cosily furnished and with lit candles on the tables. Very snug and welcoming.
The menu is a strange mix of northern european cooking, Mediterranean and Thai cuisine but that didn't matter to us; in fact I was very much in the mood for a bit of spice. We kicked off with a glass of cava and for my starter I had a very hot and spicy thai chicken soup. I was asked how hot I could take it and I said as hot as they could make it! It was seeringly hot and very excellent, especially on such a miserable day. Hub had melon with serrano ham.
To follow hub had a chicken dish with madeira sauce and mashed potato - far too much mashed potato! I carried on with my spicy theme with a very good thai fish curry with cocunut rice.
To finish I had lemon sorbet and hub had a pancake style pud with apples, raisins and nuts, accompanied by a glass of desert wine. All delicious.
Our hostess was attentive and friendly and very enthusiastic and knowledgeable about the menu. However, she let us down by not emailing a copy of the menu to us as she had promised. With a menu I could have written a better review and I could have given a copy to our hotel receptionist so that he could have recommended the restaurant to others!
When we had finished lunch it had stopped raining so we walked back to our hotel. It was downhill on the way back and took about 20 minutes.
Do give this restaurant a try.
