My husband & I stayed at this hotel from 24th Aug 2013 for 9 nights All Inclusive. The food was excellent with good variety breakfast Lunch & dinner the food was lovely we had no complaints whats so ever. The lady who swipes ur card when going into the restaurant was always very pleasant. Local spirits wine, beer etc think spirts not as strong. You can get litre bottles of water at bar to take to your room. Rooms cleaned everyday & towels changed when you require just leave them in your bath. All rooms have a pool view. There is a beach about 7 mins walk away. You are about 4miles from main Benidorm town & beach but u can get on free hotel bus approx every 1/2 hr or pay ordinary bus 1.50 euro goes by every 15mins. The water slides at the hotel are great for the kids pool area is great only downfall is queing & running for sunbeds in the morning. Entertainment starts a bit late & can be difficult getting a table also only lasts for about 3 hrs. All in all though we enjoyed our stay here & really enjoyed going into Benidorm town

We stayed at the Magic Monika Cala De Finstrat for a week from August 13th – 20th.

Well I was slightly apprehensive after reading some of the reviews, but I always keep an open mind and wait till I’ve experienced it myself.

Well in fact we had a lovely stay here (apart from the sunbed dash!!) and I would certainly think about returning.

We were three adults and four children ranging from 8 – 16.

Check in was quick, it was an English girl so no problems with the language barrier, checked us in quickly and told us our room wasn’t ready but come back in an hour and it should be. We knew it probably wouldn’t be ready as we checked in about 12.00pm, but we left swimming costumes etc on top of the case so we could change if needs be. As it was only an hour we decided to wait in our travelling clothes and went and took a seat in the snack bar by the pool. He had some food and drink and had a little look around. An hour later we went back to reception, nope, still not ready, another hour probably. By then the children were hot so they changed and got into the pool to cool off. Went back in another hour…. Still not ready!! By now we were baking and also changed and got into the pool… decided we would go back when we were ready. There were lots of us all fully clothed sitting by the pool so it was obvious we were in the same boat!

Anyway, we finally managed to get into our room, on the 23rd floor!!! Lifts only went up to 22 then you had to walk up a flight! It was the top floor! Upon arrival we realised there was no balcony which was a huge disappointment! But…. The apartment was lovely and spacious, three separate bedrooms, two bathrooms, a kitchen and a huge sitting room and the views were amazing, so we stayed put. The aircon was also lovely and cool. Only problem was there was nowhere to hang wet towels etc…

We went down for dinner, I must say the food at this hotel was one of the best AI’s I have been too, even the kids ate, and that’s rare! They normally live on rubbish the whole time, but we ate all manor of stuff, they had a house made entirely out of sweets one night which was lovely, they also had a chocolate fountain which the kids loved.

We had roast beef one night, gammon another night, roast chicken etc. There was a kids corner doing pasta, hot dogs etc. There were huge selections of bread, cheese, tapas and salads etc. If you cannot find something here to eat you must be extremely fussy!!

We made friends with two lovely waiters and they looked after us all week and kept the kids entertained, hats off to Frank and Johnny.

Now the pool!!! This part of the holiday stressed me out more than once!! We had to set an alarm each day to get up and make sure we were in the queue to get a sunbed in the morning. The queue started about 9.00am and slowly got bigger till they opened the gates at ten…. Or rather they blew the whistle and you ran for a bed!! It was chaos, people throwing towels, flip flops, themselves on beds to reserve them before somebody else did!!! Once we had beds I could relax… but woe betide you went for lunch longer that 45 minutes, some people would try and take your towels off!! Saw lots of arguments over sunbeds, if was definitely the worse part of the holiday!!

The pools were lovely, well kept and clean, they didn’t get too busy and the slides kept the kids occupied for hours!!

We went down to the local shops and beach a couple of times, it’s a nice sandy beach and a few shops and restaurants. There is also a market there a few days a week, lots of stuff to look at and get hair braided should you wish.

We also took the bus into Benidorm twice, its 1.50 euro each way.

All of the staff were helpful and friendly… some more than others! Beware the lady cleaning the toilets… if her cart is across the door… don’t enter as she will scream at you…. My poor children all got screamed at, not knowing they could not enter!

The Thomas cook rep was very helpful and always there when she should have been.

My kids loved the entertainment, some nights were better than others, they had a mini disco where the parents were also encouraged to get up!!
We would normally go there straight after dinner to get a table as it gets very busy after a certain time and you have no chance of a seat. There is a park right by the entertainment so the kids could play while you waited for it to start.

There were several bars throughout the complex and you never had to queue for long to get a drink. You were allowed two drinks per time per AI card, they don’t operate a wrist band system here. Each bar did different drinks so try them all, the drinks were plentiful and cocktails were yummy.

You could get crisps by the plateful in the inside bar, the pool bar was lovely for cocktails but make sure you wear shoes when you go there as the bridge over got mighty hot during the day and my daughter burned her feet running across it!

There are four towers each with two lifts, they can get busy at times but we never had to wait too long, there are some lounge areas where you can sit with drinks both inside and outside of the hotel.

A lady goes round taking photos day and night and you can buy them in the evening, they are 5euros each and they are lovely photos.

There are a few computers there for pay as you go internet or you can by a week or three days worth it gives you a voucher you can put into your device, only one though, not per room.

I got it for ten euros for the last three days, connection was quite good.

All in all a lovely holiday, I could have done without the stress of the sunbed dash everyday, if it wasn’t for that I would definitely, book for next year.

Room Tip: Dont get the top floor if you want a balcony!

First things first, arrived at the hotel en masse in a group of 40 odd other holiday makers and their kith and kin. Waited in line for a receptionist to become free, whilst waiting a waiter arrived with drinks (nice touch). Told that our room wasn't ready as we were early fair enough just about half twelve but we were given pass cards and the map of the hotel and the sister hotels in Benidorm. Went off to explore the hotel and get changed. First stop after searching unsuccessfully for a sunbed was the snack bar. Met the most obnoxious waiter who was lucky not to get a smack on the nose for his troubles but everything is better with a beer!

Went back to check the room around half two and told it was ready, on the 8th floor, which was different to what we had booked. Managed to scale the heights to the eighth floor as the wait for the lifts was endless. Glad the room was on the eighth floor and not one of the 2 bedroomed rooms on the sixteenth as I would have never have made the stairs everyday! Room was very good plenty of room, air con effective (too good during the night!) loads of storage room, fridge in the room no tea making facilities though but we adapted to this.

Entertainment is geared to the Spanish, but a magic show is a magic show in any language, I think the kids are the main focus for any entertainment team and kids dance to music and enjoy themselves whatever language the songs are sung in!#

Pool area is lovely not enough sunbeds and the daily race at 0930 is a brilliant watch (You tube it to see for yourself)

Food is what is expected at a 3 star hotel, you only get what you pay for. plenty of variety fair quality something for everyone to eat.

Bar service was good a little confused with the drinks though, they appear to be under strength (either that or I can drink better than I remember).

Staff all work hard, can single out Fran in the restaurant for his brilliant personality and Francesca front of house at the restaurant again for her seemingly endless supply of smiles and kind words.

Thomas Cook rep Gemma was good seemed as most reps over worked and had a busy long summer but always approachable.

All in all not a bad holiday worse thing about the hotel are some of the people that stay there can only describe them as animals and deserve to be in a zoo.

Room Tip: Lower the floor the better, two lifts per block and they do take some time to arrive. Block 3 and 4...

We stayed here for 2 weeks from 20 August to 3 September. I’ve got mixed feelings about this hotel. Firstly we waited from 10am until 3.30pm to get into the 2 rooms we had booked. Even though we had access to food and drinks the waiting was not easy as we had left home at 2.45am. The hotel is nicely situated 5 minutes walk from the lovely Finistrat Beach, a small sandy bay and 15-20 minutes away from the equally lovely and very large Poniente Beach both with restaurants, shops and bars. Although the bedrooms are dated they are a spacious size with plenty of cupboard space and a good sized veranda. The food at the hotel is excellent with breakfast, lunch and evening meals served in the restaurant and the snack bar is open from 10.30 am til 7pm. Three bars served just about every drink you could want, including cocktails and all the shorts were from branded bottles. All the staff worked very hard and were on the whole very helpful and polite. There are several other hotels in Benidorm owned by Magik whose facilities you can use, including food and drinks, as long as you take your All Inclusive Card with you.

The pool is very good as are the water slides but the downside is, and this is the worst thing about the hotel, there are not enough sunbeds. To ensure that you get some beds you have to queue every morning for at least ½ hour in one of three queues. At 9.30am a whistle is blown, the gates at each of the queues is opened and the race is on with every man or woman for themselves!!. This was very degrading and filled us with dread every day. This is the reason why I wouldn’t return. The children who are aged 6, 8, 10 and 15 all thoroughly enjoyed themselves and made lots of friends. The evening entertainment is dire and the children had no interest in it at all as they were busy playing/hanging out with their friends. We were the ones stuck with it but we made the best of it anyway.

We've recently returned from a 2 week stay in this hotel in Benidorm. We are a family of 2 adults and 2 teenage children. On arrival there was a bit of a wait for our room, but we were pleasantly surprised at the spacious accommodation, which was very clean. We were on the 7th floor and found we had to wait quite a while sometimes for one of the lifts....until one of the cleaning staff told us that we could also use the staff lift, which was a bonus! The pool was very well designed to cater for adults and children and we found it very clean, although we did witness several disputes over sunbeds during our stay and in the end the manager regularly went around taking people's towels off of the beds if they weren't at the poolside. There are lifeguards dotted around the poolside, however they didn't seem to be very vigilant and were witnessed mostly using their mobile phones! The main basement restaurant was massive, where the food was plentiful and there was a very good selection to choose from every day. The staff were all friendly and were very quick to clear empty plates away. The snack bar located by the poolside was invaluable every day and they did a nice selection of food and drinks to keep the kids happy whilst playing in the pool. In the brochure it said the kids club was up to the age of 16, however, we found it to only cater for very small children. The evening entertainment left a lot to be desired too really, although they did have a Spanish couple dancing one evening which reminded us of Strictly! The Medieval night is a must if you get the chance to go along and we also had a fantastic night out at the Benidorm Palace. The Spanish receptionists were all very friendly and helpful, however, the English receptionist constantly chewed gum and when I asked her about getting a bus into Benidorm she told me to consult the Travel Information Centre, unfortunately they only spoke Spanish though! The decor of the hotel is quite dated and they could do with a bit of a make-over there now really. There did seem to be a lot of derilect space in the basement there which we felt could have been put to better use, eg. a mini gym, sauna etc. for guests to use. On the whole though we had a very enjoyable time and would recommend this hotel to families with young children. Poinienta Beach is within walking distance of the hotel and there is a Beach Bar there which also takes the 'all inclusive' cards too, although we only found that out by chance near to the end of our holiday. Oh and forget about taking the 'free shuttle bus' into town during the high season of summer, that was a total joke, because it picks up from 3 other hotels before it gets to Magic Monika and it was always full whenever we tried to use the service early morning, or late afternoon trying to get a ride back to the hotel after a day out in Benidorm.

Room Tip: Lower floor mean you can walk up the stairs when the lifts are busy. A balcony is good for drying of...
