hotel was really lovely rooms very large and spotless food was good the only problem queing for 1 and half hours for a sunbed so we choose the beach which meant we lost our all inc finestrat is a lovely family holiday but don't think we would return to this hotel because of the sun beds if you never got one first thing you had no chance for the rest of the day

We've recently returned from a 2 week stay in this hotel in Benidorm. We are a family of 2 adults and 2 teenage children. On arrival there was a bit of a wait for our room, but we were pleasantly surprised at the spacious accommodation, which was very clean. We were on the 7th floor and found we had to wait quite a while sometimes for one of the lifts....until one of the cleaning staff told us that we could also use the staff lift, which was a bonus! The pool was very well designed to cater for adults and children and we found it very clean, although we did witness several disputes over sunbeds during our stay and in the end the manager regularly went around taking people's towels off of the beds if they weren't at the poolside. There are lifeguards dotted around the poolside, however they didn't seem to be very vigilant and were witnessed mostly using their mobile phones! The main basement restaurant was massive, where the food was plentiful and there was a very good selection to choose from every day. The staff were all friendly and were very quick to clear empty plates away. The snack bar located by the poolside was invaluable every day and they did a nice selection of food and drinks to keep the kids happy whilst playing in the pool. In the brochure it said the kids club was up to the age of 16, however, we found it to only cater for very small children. The evening entertainment left a lot to be desired too really, although they did have a Spanish couple dancing one evening which reminded us of Strictly! The Medieval night is a must if you get the chance to go along and we also had a fantastic night out at the Benidorm Palace. The Spanish receptionists were all very friendly and helpful, however, the English receptionist constantly chewed gum and when I asked her about getting a bus into Benidorm she told me to consult the Travel Information Centre, unfortunately they only spoke Spanish though! The decor of the hotel is quite dated and they could do with a bit of a make-over there now really. There did seem to be a lot of derilect space in the basement there which we felt could have been put to better use, eg. a mini gym, sauna etc. for guests to use. On the whole though we had a very enjoyable time and would recommend this hotel to families with young children. Poinienta Beach is within walking distance of the hotel and there is a Beach Bar there which also takes the 'all inclusive' cards too, although we only found that out by chance near to the end of our holiday. Oh and forget about taking the 'free shuttle bus' into town during the high season of summer, that was a total joke, because it picks up from 3 other hotels before it gets to Magic Monika and it was always full whenever we tried to use the service early morning, or late afternoon trying to get a ride back to the hotel after a day out in Benidorm.

Room Tip: Lower floor mean you can walk up the stairs when the lifts are busy. A balcony is good for drying of...

We had a very good holiday and I will give a very fair honest review.

We have just returned, stayed at the Monika for 1 week, 28th August 2013. Went with Jet2, full package holiday, all-inclusive £1200 for 2 adults, 1 child and 1 toddler, booked just 3 weeks before going.

ROOM-
On arrival in Alicante at 11am, we were onto the Jet2 transfer coach reasonably quickly and off, we were first stop-off as hotel is in Finestrat, 45 mins max so it was perfect! Arrived at hotel around 1pm and got our room immediately. A very large 1 bed appt on 17th floor - we have 2 buggies and there was plenty space in room not to have to fold them up. We had a lounge with 2 beds and a soft, tv, kitchen area and a separate bedroom with 2 beds, tv. Both lounge and bedroom opened onto a large balcony, fully enclosed - no rails etc which is always a worry with young kids!!! Huge amount of floor to ceiling cupboard space!

Kitchen lacked in utensils and no cups but we didnt use the kitchen area once so was not a problem.

We have a 22 month old son and there was no cot in the room.- we have been on another 6 package holidays with a toddler and always had a cot in room on arrival. I phoned reception and was told there was a charge of 6 euro per night cot hire - HA! I went straight down to reception and said I had paid for a family holiday and we should at least all have a bed to sleep in, within about a minute she said 'ok, free for you, no problem' and there was a cot in our room on arrival back after a walk around 4pm. So, service great!

Room was made everyday when we had breakfast time, not sure if it was clean sheets, but I dont expect clean sheets everyday, there was clean towels whenever we required them.

AREA-
We liked the location. With 2 kids in buggies we did a lot of walking, walking to the old town and then even all the way to the new town one day!! We got the free shuttle bus on 4 occasions, twice to take us back to the hotel from the Fenecia in Old Town, and one time from the hotel to the Rock Garden. Only 1 time out of 4 was the bus too busy for us to get on. We would form an orderly queue for the bus but when the bus arrives almost everyone else just piles on not caring that we have 2 kids in buggies. We had lunch and drinks at 3 other hotels in the group, free with the all-inclusive card - the Fenecia, Villa de Benidorm and Crystal Park - all times great and welcomed. Also stopped for drinks on several occasions over the week at the Pionente Beach club bar while walking to or from the Old town.

FOOD-
I found it great quality and plenty of it, for a 3* hotel it was much better than expected. A lot of choice, always hot. We ate breakfast around 9am most mornings so it was very quiet, not hectic at all like some previous reviews!! One occasion we did eat at 10am and it was hectic!! Had dinner near 7.30pm again always very quiet as most other guests eat much later.

DRINKS-
No queues at bars, no plastic cups, plenty of choice - fantastic service! Free bottled water also a bonus - you can ask for a large 1.5 litre bottle free too, so didnt have to buy any bottled water the whole week!

LIFTS-
We were on 17th floor, 2 buggies so needed to rely on the lifts, we used the lifts at least 5 or 6 times a day, everyday, and only 1 occasion had to wait longer than a couple minutes, one lift was not working and we waited about 15mins for the lift, but that was the day we were going to breakfast at 10am, so had it been our normal 9am breakfast I am sure it would have not been as long! As said before, we ate earlier than a lot of other guests so I guess out of peak-times.

FACILITIES/ENTERTAINMENT-
Great playpark and soft-play/ball pool area that my kids loved and used several times a day. Indoor soft-play area air-conditioned too which was great. The outdoor playpark area was not in excellent condition, the soft ground tiles needed squared up as there was several gaps between tiles which could have been dangerous, but no accidents with both my young kids.

Evening entertainment could have been better by being earlier. The kids mini-disco was at 9.30-10pm which for our 3.5 yr old and 22 month old was a bit late, though we did still go!! There was further shows/circus/magician etc afterwards each night but too late for us. We would have preferred the entertainment from around 8pm.

We had a great time, good for what we paid. Really liked the fact that we could eat and drink at the other hotels in the chain and the free bus - this was ideal for us and we only stayed at the hotel during the day one day of the week, and prefer to be out and about.

Great all-round, only thing that would stop me going back was the entertainment starting so late for our kids!

We are a family with children aged 4 and 7 years. I would like to add that we are northern but are neither fat or greedy!!!! We booked this holiday last year and were becoming quite worried after seeing the more recent bad reviews and aim to give an open minded honest review.
First impressions were ok, check-in straight forward and staff spoke good English. I had emailed before our holiday after reading that towers 3 and 4 should be avoided with young children as they overlook the late and noisy entertainment. We were allocated tower 4! We asked to change to tower 1 or 2 which they did with little fuss! However, there was no door on the safe in the new room, and when we informed reception they said they would sort it! We reminded them another 2 or 3 times but unfortunately it was still missing at the end of our 10 night stay!

The hotel is huge and appears very dated but reception, bars and rooms kept very clean! Staff visible constantly changing bins, checking toilets etc...

Pool is brilliant and our children had lots of fun on the slides and in the kids pool! They were very disappointed the swim up bar is falsely described as you actually have to get out and walk over a foot bridge! The pool appears very clean and well maintained. The infamous 'sunbed' dash is ridiculous but necessary if you want to choose the sunbeds where you want to be, which for us was close the kids pool so we could watch our children! There are 4 tower blocks with 23 floors each, people from other magic chain hotels often come and visit because of the great pool and also the locals like to drop in for the day and there are simply no where near enough sunbeds!!! We like to lay by the pool and relax and feel that as this is what we chose to spend our hard earned cash on...it was to be a case of 'if you can't beat them, join them'! The sunbeds are literally touching to cram them in... Not even room for a few parasols! We noticed that there were stacks of unused sunbeds in a locked area near the kids club and wondered why they didn't put them out on the two sun terraces that go unused during the day?! Waking around the pool area is like a chrystal maze challenge due to lack of room and slimy floor tiles!
The kids club is small but the entertainers there friendly and welcoming. My youngest went for an hour before they broke for lunch but on return found that a film was being played in Spanish which she was disappointed about!
Food was quite nice compared to many other all inc we have stayed at before. Plenty of fresh salad, fruit and veg. Food was always hot we rarely had to wait for food to be replenished. However, it is a case of again the facilities were just not adequate for the amount of guests! The queues at peak times were often long and the two hot food areas side by side which often caused confusion and annoyance as some people just went straight to the hot service area! Desserts were plentiful and delicious! The waiters in the restaurant work tirelessly to clear and re-set tables. And Francesca on restaurant reception was always friendly and welcoming.
Lifts weren't too bad, waited for just a few mins most of the time!
Drinks were good, slushes , kids cocktails and milk shakes for the kids. Even bottled water was included! Cider and rose wine were a bonus as we have never had them on all inc before!
We have visited Spain many times and therefore aware the the Spanish can appear bold and rude but have always put it down to cultural differences and never been offended! However, when you are as outnumbered as you are in this hotel it can be quite intimidating! We were shocked at how rude, impatient and bad-mannered many of the Spanish guests at this hotel were! We had been there only an hour when we had quickly eaten and sat down to watch the evening entertainment! A waiter passed our table and swung my daughters chair towards another table, as I tried to pull it back a Spanish man grabbed it and almost pulled my arm out of the socket (I am not exaggerating!!) he was aggressive and shouting at me! An elderly English couple who had kindly let us join them tried to explain it was ' bambinos chair' he got very aggressive at us all and 2 or 3 other Spanish 'men' began shouting at us and creating a scene! It was a terrible first impression and the staff did absolutely nothing to help or diffuse the situation! We later found out these were the spanish gypsies we had previously read about on here! i would have gone straight back home at this point! although the staff were generally friendly they seemed to consider the few English guests needs as secondary to the Spanish!
The evening entertainment was ok. We had a good time because we met some other lovely British families but the entertainment area again inadequate for such a huge hotel and again aimed at the Spanish. It is on a weekly rotation too so if you stay for more than 7 nights you need to find something else to do! The magician asked if there was any English in the audience and my husband said yes! He then proceeded to do the show in Spanish, apart from one short trick in which he involved my husband then went back to Spanish! Why bother asking?!?! Overall, the entertainment was in Spanish with a few brief bits of English when they remembered we were there!! My kids loved the mini disco and we enjoyed watching them having fun! And roberto and David are great!
Found it strange they choose to do the fire alarm checks at 8am!!!
Overall, we had a good holiday but the good points simply do not outweigh the bad points enough to even consider returning to this hotel! The facilities are inadequate for such a huge hotel and I don't really know why they bother having British tour operators sell holidays for this hotel!

Stayed here 24th-31st August & had a fab time. I'm quite disgusted by some of the comments on here regarding the Spanish guests & staff. There is one comment below that states there is no English staff, well if they took time to get to know them they would realise Nakki (think thats how you spell it ) the entertainment manager is actually English!! She is great with the kids, yes she speaks in Spanish first but repeats everything in English.

Check in
Arrived at 1pm,the reception staff were very friendly and helpful, explained our room wasn't ready but issued us with our AI cards and showed us where we could eat & drink. I'd read the reviews before hand and saw a tip to pack swimwear near the top of the case so we could use the pool if our room wasn't ready but we didnt need to as our room was ready after we'd had a bite to eat (approx 2.30pm). We'd paid for a safe and found it wouldnt work,my hubby went down to the reception and a matenance man had fixed it within 30 mins.

Rooms
We are a family of 4 and had a 1 bedroom apartment in block 4 floor 9. The apartment was very spacious with twin beds made up in the living area and a sofa, there was a TV with BBC 1 and air con. The bedroom had a double bed and ceiling fan. Yes the kitchen area was small and not many utensils but been AI you don't need them,i would imagine if you was S/C there would be adequate cutlery/crockery. The fridge was an added bonus that you dont always get with A/I.

Food/drink
It was our first time AI and we found it very good value for money, breakfast had everything from a full English, fresh pancakes, fruit, bread, crossiants etc. Drinks in the restaurant are self service with beer sangria and soft drinks. Lunch & dinner in the restaurant were very good i have a very picky eating and she always found something. Some type of meat or fish is always been cooked on a hot plate in front of you, theres always a selection of potatoes veg pasta rice salad fruit bread and loads of desserts.
The pool snackbar is open till 7pm and food is refreshed during the day starting with breakfast items then paella, chips, hot dogs, fresh fruit, salad, pizza, chicken, ice cream and waffles, drinks are also self serve in here.
Slushes, cocktails, wine beer, milk shakes etc are all available from the bars along with plates of crisps till about 7pm.
We never experienced and queuing more than 3-4 people in front of us.
We booked with Thomas cook and was ultra AI which meant branded drinks were included

Pool
Pool is fantastic slides open daily from 11-7 with an hours break around 2pm. Life guards are very good and friendly. The pool does get deep in places quickley so if you have little ones you need to be aware of this.
The sun bed run is funny and i'm ashamed to say my hubby did take part in it but there is no need to queue for hours, the pool opened at 9.30 while we was there and he joined the queue around 9.20 and always got decent sunbeds. If you have little kids its best to keep them out of the way because some people do take it seriously and will push and shove.

Entertainment
The entertainment is geared up for young children, there is something going on all day if they want to take part,my youngest was happy in the pool and never did the activites but from what i saw the children that did take part had lots of fun. There was alot of spanish children but everything was repeated in English.
I dont know what people expect from night time entertainment, there was always something different, bird show, snake show, magic, dancing etc it was ok,not the best i've seen but the kids enjoyed it.

La Cala
Very small little town with a lovely cove beach,a few shops and tapas bars. We only saw 1 English bar,Molly malones (very good). If you are S/C you may find yourself having to go into Benidorm a few times.

Staff.
We found all staff to be friendly & helpful. I did see some guests with attitude been rude to bar staff & waiters and they got rude back. I think if you approached them in a friendly way they will go out their way to help.

Overall
The hotel was great,we visited benidorm one day and went on the service bus as the magic shuttle was always full. It cost 1 euro 50 each way per person. We visited the magic villa de benidorm whilst there and found it a lovely hotel. Its 90% spanish guests and was lovely and relaxed,we walked in at 11am and got a sunbed straight away and was made to feel very welcome by the staff, the pool was lovely as was the lunch we ate there.
The spanish guests at the monika did not bother us at all,you are in spain so you should expect spanish people! We actually found some of the English to be more rude and arrogant than the spanish.
Overall we really enjoyed are holiday and i would not hesitate to book again.
Oh but please get a safe and put all valuables in it including loose change ,mobile phones & chargers!

Room Tip: Block 4 looks right over the evening entertainment

we visited this hotel for the day while staying at magic aqua rock gardens. the hotel is clean and tidy.
the pool is gorgeous. very big and lots of sunbeds around the edges; however, there still wasn't enough sunbeds to cater for all the guests. the hotel could do with some more sunbed space but the holiday makers who put towels on the beds and don't come back for hours are selfish and if they didn't leave there towels, there would be a lot more sunbeds available.
the food and drink were good, but the restaurant was like a cattle market.
we wouldn't stay at this hotel a its too crowded but it is still good.

We stayed there for 12 days from 19th Aug 2013 and when we arrived at 12 we wasn't allowed into our rooms till 5 and asking other guest this is always happening. The rooms are great big and spacious but if you book higher floors from 7 upwards you've had it as you will be waiting hours for the lifts that's if you don't get stuck in them, as this was happening everyday or the cleaners would use them. The pools were lovely good food in snack bar, didn't eat in main restaurant felt like I was underground and there was no theme nights and quite dark and depressing. Next the sun bed run what a joke pool didn't open till 10 then we got them to change it after a huge row which it now opens at 9.30 still to late I've never been aboard and seen a pool open so late when you've got 900 people queuing then wait for it they blow a whistle and the gates open and you have to run for your sun bed. My daughter got her arm injured by a man pushing her on our first day. Don't go her for your holidays on the last 3 weeks aug as all the Spanish come and there so rude. The entertainment I can't even call it that it's rubbish there's no English staff and its all geared towards the Spanish. The evening shows are rubbish when you see what acts are on in Benidorm it needs more activities in the day for all ages and the aqua aerobics is terrible. They need the kids disco early and proper entertainment otherwise you will need to go out and pay for it and its not fair if you're all inclusive. There should be a bar open after 12 which there's nothing and they throw you out at 12 discussing your on your holiday for god sake.
They have a life guard who looks like aquro from man city he his great really looks after the kids they loved him, he was the best person all the kids got on with. I would not recommend this hotel at the moment but if they were to take on board my comments and make changes you never now thanks The Jonesey from Manchester (PP to people at the hotel who know us)
