We returned from the Monika Holidays Hotel on Sat the 7th June, and i have come back with the feeling that i have enjoyed my hols, i read the reviews and was a bit worried some of the bad ones.
I am really not one to moan, and make the most of things so i knew it would take a lot to put me off.
Firstly we travelled in a group of six, 4 adults and 2 kids, booked with thomas cook and had two rooms (3rd floor and 11th floor)
When we finally arrived, taking 2 hours on the coach from the airport, dropping off at 8 hotels along the way, we walked into reception, and thought Wow!, very nicely presented!
Our rooms were really nice, loads of space, living room, bedroom, bathroom and large balcony. (kitchen is in a cupboard with double doors). only used the kitchen for the fridge as it was no good to cook a meal in.
The all inclusive facility is ok, all food and drinks free, smart i thought, and it was to start off with, but by the end of the week i was eating at the bars dotted down the street as i was sick of the same old stuff meal after meal, there was no variety, my daughter ate chips for the entire holiday because there was nothing else she liked, the snack bar was in the restaurant and served up mainly the stuff that was left over from dinner or tea and pizza, for the drinks you had to show a card, which meant carrying it around with you all the time ( i prefer armbands) and it was 1 drink per card, max 2 cards per person, so if i needed to get 3 drinks one of my family would have to come to the bar with me (and yes they do pints of beer). also the cards let you into the room, but only 2 cards out of 3 worked. these damn cards became a pain, needing them to get into the restaurant was fun because they never swiped and you always had to give your room number.
The hotel complex is huge though, never any problems finding somewhere to sit, it was very clean and tidy and the rooms where cleaned everyday.
The staff where on the whole very nice, reception can get difficult to communicate with (but thats my fault i dont speak a lot of spanish so cant really grumble at that), although i was annoyed on the last day as we had to pay for extra time on the room, which cost us 25 euros then we got locked out of our rooms because they didnt have proof we paid for the extra time, arguing finally got us somewhere, also when we paid for the safe key - 30 euros, when we returned it for our 15 euro deposit they were difficult because we didnt have a receipt for it (it was our safe key!, how much proof is that?) so again arguing got us somewhere, so my advice is to keep any reciepts and paperwork you may need them.
The pool was ace though, clean and huge, never any problem getting a space (although we didnt go in peak season) and Yes!! agreeing with other reviews it was cold, very cold, but once you were in it was ok, 5 out 6 of us where in everyday (tip: just jump in and get it over with. lol)
There were other things dotted around on site, like computers for the internet, crazy golf, basket ball nets, football, play slide, indoor soft play area to put time in, however the entertainment at night was in such a small room, maybe fits 100 people, so in a hotel with well over 400 rooms, this was way to small, the entertainment was good though, so get a seat when it opens at 8 and you'll have a laugh.
Thats about it really, reading it back it sounds like i didnt enjoy it but i did, just pointing out the things that got on my nerves by the end of the week adds up a bit.
We paid £860 for a week all inc with airport transfers etc, so thats why im not moaning to much, because i enjoyed staying at the Monika Holidays Hotel, but i wouldnt have like to pay any more than that.
