“pleasant surprise”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 26, 2012

stayed at palms villas week of 15th june and have to say it was excellent.set at the end of the resort it's very quite ,but close enough to reach bars ,shops ,restaurants etc..facilities in villa are good, every room has air con, main bedroom is en suite, there is a 2nd bathroom for other 2 bed rooms. fully equipped kitchen as well but the biggest selling point is the outside space , it's really good. spectacular views over mountains , good garden and good sized pool, 6 adults in our party and plenty of space for everyone.never got any smell from river over the road and only tiny ants in garden but hey, don;t we get ants at home!.now for main point. we were only there for a week relaxing but having looked at prices in local shops a car is a must to get to cuitadella and the big supermarkets at acg cars 300yards down from villa we got a basic car for 66 euros for 3 days ,fully comp ,no excess waiver damage everything, and set off for supermarket and saved a fortune compared to resort prices, lidl, dia and eroski all very near each other ,well signposted just as you get to cuitadella.a taxi to supermarket is 30 euros each way so a car is a no brainer!.don;t be afraid to drive ,roads are excellent and very quite, hardly any traffic, and well signposted .went to supermarket on 1st day and on 3rd day just to stock up. prices are 50%/75% dearer in resort even on basic things so be aware. there is a bus stop in the centre of galdana that will take you to supermarkets for 2 euros each way but then you have to carry everything on bus so it's possible but a bit more difficult.beach in galdana is to die for , calm shallow and warm , in a natural bay with steep sided cliffs ,photo heaven!.all in all ,great villa , great holiday but a very quite resort , chill out yes , party no !

Just got back to the UK after a week in the 36 degrees heat and thank goodness for the pool at the Villa. As mentioned by other advisors it is quite private and at the end of a cul de sac which runs adjacent to the river. The surrounding road therefore is very quiet. There are as mentioned the ants in the garden, but few come inside the Villa so don't be put off staying. Maid service was with the Villa and the Pool is tended to. My booking said the Villa has a telehpone, which it did not, but did have a DVD which would have been helpful to know in advance. One double bedroom and two with twin beds in each, all air conditioned. The walk to the beach if you are mobile is ten mins , as is the town centre of Cala Galdana. We ate at Si Lunna for pizza, meson Murcia for the fixed 15 Euros evening three course meal, Es Barranc for lunch due to the high number of Spaniards taking lunch there and Toboggan Bar for Pizza and Paella. All were of a reasonable price and the staff I cannot fault, being so friendly and helpful. The only issue for the Villa residents to be aware of is the number of steps to your front door which for us was about forty. I would highly recommend this complex of Villas if you take into account the few small issues to take into account.

we have been on a number of villa holidays before and we were very impressed with this villa.we were in no2. the view was very relaxing .its a very quiet area .the pool
was small but adequate. although these villas are semi-detached and quite close together the walls and hedges makes them quite private. the cleaning lady was excellent we had everything we required except bar-b-que tools which we didnt need anyway. we had a hire car which allowed us to shop in eroski and lidl where the food is much cheaper than the resort mini markets. we cooked all our own meals and saved a fortune (why waste the facilities youve already paid for).

It's a very nice villa. It's located at the end of a road close to the centre of Cala Galdana - about a 5 minute walk for me, perhaps 10 minutes with the kids. The villas are effectively built onto the side of a hill so the back 4 (furthest from the road) are much higher than the front six and they also overlook them to a certain extent. However this is not a problem at all.
My kids (11, 8 and 6) had a great time as they were in and out of the pool all day. When you get bored or want some food, the restaurants are not far away. The resort still feels Spanish (not British, unlike some) and there was a wide range of restaurants all offering different stuff. A trip to the Mirador (restaurant overlooking the beach) is a must but it's a little pricey. We went once as a treat but the views are wonderful with your meal.
Cala Galdana is a family resort so don't expect nightclubs, instead its just restaurants and bars. If it's nightclubs you want, go somewhere else.
A hire car is a necessity as it allowed us to go to the supermarket at Cuitadella to avoid the ripoff prices of the local supermarkets - this alone saved me a few hundred euros by the time the holiday was over. The prices at the Eroski supermarket are about 50-75% of the 'on resort' little shops. It also allowed us to visit all of the other sights worth seeing - Mount Toro is breathtaking, Mahon, Cuitadella, Fornells and all the other little resorts and beaches. We also went to the festival at Alaior which saved us quite a few quid as we didn't need the tour bus to take us. That's a fun thing to see if you're there at the right time.
The drawbacks are that the pool is not massive (7m by 4m) so don't expect to do any swimming, just jumping in to it. The villa also does have little trails of ants that follow paths around the walls and grass, however these are not an issue as long as you buy a can of ant killer aerosol (3 euros from the supermarket) and make sure you don't leave crumbs and food lying around the house. It was easily managed by us - don't let that put you off.

Overall I'm told by my wife that I'm a bit 'sniffy' when it comes to picking holiday locations - I don't want to go places which all serve English breakfasts for one euro, I like to feel a bit of the culture of the coutry and eat the local food. Overall I really liked Menorca - its much warmer than France and ten times better than places like Portugal. I'm definitely coming back to these villas again

We had our first family holiday here, it was great (but you really needed a car). The resort of Cala Galdana was fantastic.

The only draw back was the smell of the river flowing in front of the villas (which could not be smelt at the villa - just when you were walking to the main resort)

The staff (cleaning lady and pool guy) were very friendly and we had no problems

The villa itself was basic enough, but it was clean and had everything we needed.

  • Liked — the pool
  • Disliked — it was on a very steep hill
