“A great, basic hotel - does what it says on the tin!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 15, 2013 via mobile

On arrival at around 1pm the reception staff were helpful and allowed us to check in to our room straight away although we were a few hours early - a great start!
To address some issues raised on other reviews; we didn't find reception staff to be rude, they were often busy and were probably sick to death of dealing with stupid/rude ppl! Other staff around the hotel were EXCELLENT, so polite and helpful cannot fault dining, bar or entertainment staff.
We didn't go with kids but animation team were superb and all children there seemed to be having a super time.
Rooms was a bit on small size but all we used it for was sleepin and getting ready so really wasn't an issue.
The location was perfect literally out of front door and onto beach. It was just me and my boyfriend who went, both in our mid 20s and although there was a strip of shops and bars there wasn't a whole lot of things to do right nearby, however if you want a lazy, sunny beach hol this is the place for you!
Excellent hotel for its 3* rating. Would recommend for a basic, get what you pay for hotel!

Stayed here end of July for a week. Good hotel right on the beach. Food good but it is an assault course at meal times due in part to other Europeans not realising the concept of queuing which we British do so well (unfortunately for us). The only downside is if you are going the beach you will be plagued by peddlers selling their wares.one day I counted how many times I got asked to buy something and I got asked 13 times if I wanted a massage, and over 10 times if I wanted to buy something that was very annoying. The other downside was if you got a room with pool view then forget it you will never get any sleep. Apart from that I had a fab holiday . It is a lovely place and would definately go back.

Just got back from a 2 week stay at Golden Donaire Beach Hotel.
We were a party of 10 people aged from 15 to 55.
We all had a fantastic time and would recommend it to anyone.
The location is fantastic, right on a lovely sandy beach with shallow water. The Water park is 500m away and PortAdventura is a short bus ride away for those who want some thrills.
The Hotel staff were very efficient and we found them pleasant to speak to.
We stayed Full Board and generally stayed on the Beach all day so can't really comment about the Pool and we went out to La Pineda in the evening so can't comment on the Entertainment.
However, the Thompson Reps were very good and were always around to help answer any questions you may have.
The rooms were small but adequate, the Air Conditioning was good and rooms were cleaned everyday.
The most impressive thing though was the quality & variety of the food. We have stayed in many 3* Hotels and this was by far the best Food we have come across.
We ate Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner every day and the food was always well prepared and there was plenty of choice every day. We had our share of fussy eaters but they had no complaints.
The Meat, Salad and Sweets were really good.
There were a lot of Russians in the Hotel & Resort but as the Hotel is owned by Russians it's not surprising and generally they were no worse than the Brits.
All in all it was a great holiday and we would have no qualms about returning again (as many others regularly do year after year).

I stayed in Golden Donaire for two weeks this July. Decided to write review as it might be helpful for someone choosing hotel in La Pineda.
Good things (pros):
- Location. I think it is really big advantage of this hotel to have the beach just few steps out of hotel.
- Food. Not much variety, but every time could find something for me and it was good quality. The cakes and pastry were really delicious. I also enjoyed having freshly backed pancakes for breakfast.

Concerns:
- Reception staff, especially Russian speaking girls. The reception staff could spoil you first impression. When checking in I had to speak with one of those
Russian speaking girls. She was really rude, no normal conversation was possible with her. I wasn't expecting that kind of service in Spain.
- Rooms. Quite outdated, however clean. Automatically switching on TV really annoys. I wasn't informed about that and was shocked the entered the room.
I stayed on the third floor with view on the remains of closed hotel and road. Not great one, but it could be worse if it will be closer to the main road.

Tips:
- If you want room with sea view book that in advance as it is impossible to change room especially during height season. Also ask for any rooms features (floor, twin or double) in advance.

I suspect that not too much has changed at the Golden Donaire over the past 20 or 30 years, which is probably one of the reasons why so many of the other guests seemed to be returning for the umpteenth time. If you're looking for a no-frills seaside family holiday without any airs or graces then you'll thoroughly enjoy yourself.

There's nothing 'platinum', 'a la carte' or 'taste the difference' about the place - the rooms are small, the beds are hard, the aircon is a token effort that needs a couple of days to get going, the bathrooms are a bit mouldy round the edges, the food varies from pretty good to inedible, the service can be a bit hit & miss, the pool is a bit small, you need to be up at 8 to get a sunbed - but you end up not worrying about any of that.

In fact, the whole Salou region is much the same; there's so much to do - Portaventura, go karting, adventure course, nightlife, and some cracking beaches - that you quickly forget the rough edges and just get on wth having a good time.

Talking of cracking beaches, you simply can't beat the Donaire for location. Long and wide, family friendly, warm and shallow sea. Just add bucket and spade for the little uns and a body board for the teenagers. We also saw some other fine cove beaches on the way to Salou if you fancied a change.

The other reviews here are all pretty accurate about the finr details of the place, so I won't go into every nook and cranny here. Just to say...don't pay over the odds, do leave any snobbery at home, don't get too hung up about the little flaws, do get into the spirit of things. With those in mind, you'll have some great memories.

We went last sept with our toddlers and have just been again for 10 days with my parents coming along too this time. Children aged 4 and 2. It's easy and hassle free that's why we enjoy it. 15 mins transfer.
Location fab, pool area busier than September but still we always got a sunbed even at 3pm! Rooms are small but functional and we don't spend much time in them anyway. Red hot water for shower at all times. Room was cleaned very day we were there and beds made/ changed as necessary.
Entertainment was fab as last year headed by David who I can't fault..and his team. Boys love the mini disco and we bought the DVD again so we are still dancing to the songs at home. Nice to have a wonder on the seafront with a nice variety of shops and restaurant and a children's park not far away.
We went half board because we can't drink as much as we would like! Having the boys there and there not yet at ages where they ask for everything so all inculsive wasnt for us. I wouldn't have gone full board because we didn't need that extra meal. You can pay for a pizza or get a bread roll and a packet of crisps from the supermarket next door if you need to at lunchtime. Couple of times we went into salou on the local
bus so had evening dinner there so just swopped dinner for lunch so we didn't miss out!!
I do think some of the staff particularly the bar staff can be rude as we're the Russians at times but I was on holiday with my family and had a giggle with the other English / Scottish that were there so it wasn't important to us. The food was lovely and I'm missing the amazing salad and pasta bar now I'm home....I think you have to remember you get what you pay for and we would go again and lots of people you speak to we're on there 5th, 6th visits etc with one family on their 30th year!! So it can't be that bad. Infant no its horrible dont go there..then when we rebook we will have it all to ourselves!...

We have stayed in many hotels throughout different parts of Spain and had no
problems at all. But we have to say the staff at this hotel were borderline rude.
For this reason we will never return. Pity as the location is fab, with lovely beach
right on your doorstep, but staff made us feel quite uncomfortable to be honest.

Room Tip: Ask for a beach view
