Don't be put off by the fact it looks like you are stepping into a basement when you go down the stairs, you are not, there's windows and plenty of light.
I stumbled across this place with a work colleague when up in Shipley this week. We were really taken aback with how friendly the lady that runs the place was,so attentive and charming.
The food was delicious, the homemade bread made my sandwich way better than the average lunchtime snack. We didn't try the cakes (we should have) however they looked delicious and on the huge side.
The ringing a little glass bell to request service, the memorabilia scattered everywhere and the menu sellotaped inside of a book (mine was the hillwalkers guide to yorkshire) were unique ideas and maybe a little barmy but all worked well in this setup, causing a chuckle rather than a rolled eyeball.
I really can't stress how lovely the lady that runs the place was, it's getting rather rare to receive service that's anything above average. You can buy all the vintage wares on show too. This place deserve to do well and if it were down here in London it would be jam packed popular.
