“Beautiful place!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 16, 2011

Hotel J is really a place to come "home" to. Its one of the very few hotels you really feel at home. The cozy fireplace in the "living rom" (aka Lobby), the lovely rooms, the informal buffet and the very friendly staff.

They are currently expanding their building so that I hope the atmosphere and style of the hotel will remain the same.

Stayed here with my husband one night and had a lovely time. Although it was chaotic when we arrived due to short staff and lots of guest they managed to sort it out in no time and we had a lovely stay in the hotel. The rooms are nice and the restaurant down at the Marina lovely. If you are looking to get away from the city's hussle and bussle this is a great place to stay.

Me and my girlfriend went to Stockholm this summer and we stayed at Hotel J which gave us exactly what we wanted. The surroundings was very relaxing but still it was pretty close to Stockholm City.

We arrived early in the morning and because of that our room wasn’t ready for check-in. The staff then gave us some free ice-cream. We lay down in comfortable deckchairs in front of the hotel with a beautiful view of the water in Stockholm, watching sailing boats and ferries pass by not far from us. Great!

We got a very, very nice room, with same great view. The interior was clean and with sailing-inspiration, very nice in my opinion, the total opposite to all the boring standard-room which is common in other hotels I have stayed at. The room was very light and with lots of space and a big nice bed.

To get into Stockholm city, we went by boat. A beautiful trip (yes, we had great weather as well) which took about 15-20 minutes only. One night we stayed at the hotel and went to the restaurant which is placed beautifully down by the water (check out photos on their website). Dinner was delicious! So was the breakfast by the way. Lots of things to choose between!

The staff was very friendly the whole visit, they really made us to feel welcome all the time. I really recommend this hotel!

stayed here for 7 nights in early August. Had a "Sea-View" room on the ground floor, which was nice but did lack a bit of privacy due to chairs and tables on the lawn. The room was fairly standard, beds comfortable, pillows not so much. Breakfast was nice, brioche heavenly. Staff was helpful when asked questions.

Now about the location...it is a very easy 10 minute bus ride from Stockholm. If you are visiting and have a Stockholm Card, the bus transport is included. That being said, the last bus to Nacka Strand leaves Stockholm at 7:25 pm. However, that ended up working our fine for us as we were usually exhausted from a day of sightseeing. It was peaceful and quiet at the hotel, which my husband and I agreed added some relaxation to our trip as well. Note, this was also good so we could sleep with the windows open, if the room had air conditioning it wasn't very good.

The construction wasn't too much of an issue for us as we were normally gone during the weekday sightseeing, but it really did begin at 7 am which I think is crazy. But if you're planning to relax at the hotel during the week day, frankly I'd make another choice.

And one final note, the sodas are not complimentary as I had been lead to believe upon check-in (I thought you just had to pay for alcohol, they said just write down your sodas with your room number). We unknowingly racked up about a $50 bill for Coca-Cola. I think these should have been complimentary for a hotel of this level and due to the construction.

If you are happy being a boat ride away from the centre and are looking for a reasonably priced place to stay in Stockholm this could be the place for you. It is a functional rather than particularly charming sort of place- perfectly adequate but not sensational. I agree with other correspondents who complain about early morning building works. I would consider staying there again if I returned to Stockholm, but wasn't overwhelmed. Would recommend to a friend with the above caveats! To be fair, though, it was good value for money.

Frankly, even after the construction of the new building, it will still be a great place to stay as the setting will stay the same! Perfect for a "wanna forget work"-weekend! Well done Hotel J Nacka Strand!

Arrived Sunday 1st August 2010 the noise from the major building work next door where they are extending the hotel starts at 7.30am! It is very noisy and it spoilt the whole experience. There was no notice of this construction work when I booked. I asked to see the manager Sophie Norberg to understand why no notice was given. She was not available. - gone sailing apparently. The front desk stafff agreed that this was just not right, and got similar reactions from the many disappointed guests. We were rebooked to their sister hotel to salvage our few days left in Stockholm. I cannot believe the manager who allow her customers to be treated like fools. Hotel customers have a right to know if there is major works going on.
