“Galeria Saro is a postcard come to life”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 5, 2008

Galeria Saro was recommended to us by friends who had stayed there and we are so pleased we listened to them. The house itself is like a postcard come to life - white-washed facade, black wrought iron railings on balconies, potted geraniums in dazzling colours - set on a cobblestoned street with foot traffic only. The nearby town plaza with its clock tower and beautiful views is a focus for the locals and tourists alike.

When we were there in April/May the weather was beginning to heat up however the house was pleasantly cool inside. We stayed in one of the two upstairs self-contained rooms with a twin bedroom, ensuite bathroom and a sitting / dining room with kitchenette and a tiny balcony onto the street. We were completely private from the rest of the house and felt we had our own special hideaway. The rooms were spotlessly clean, decorated in a rustic comfortable style.

Our hosts Sue and Alberto gave us great advice on things to see and do in the area and beyond. Jimena turned out to be the perfect base for exploring Andalucia. Alberto, who speaks Spanish, was an invaluable help with our onward train and accommodation bookings. Our two weeks at Galeria Saro went all too quickly.

“Beautiful home, wonderful hosts, great location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 28, 2008

My partner and I stumbled on Galeria Saro during a recent tour of Andalucia's amazing "Peublo Blancos" (white villages) and our 7 night stay with hosts Sue and Alberto in their gorgeous 14th century courthouse home was the major highlight of our visit to Spain. Whist originally choosing a B & B option we later requested full pension as the breakfasts were so generous and utterly delicious. This was a great decision as we experienced divine Spanish food using the freshest local ingredients (including seafood!) - we were even treated to a trip to the markets with Alberto who explained the history and aspects of the culture of the region.

Our room was large with private bathroom, comfy bed and lovely view and the beautiful embroidered bed linen, fluffy towels and fresh flowers were a nice touch. As Jimena is very much a typical small Spanish village it tended to be a little noisy at night but this was easily blocked with wooden shutters which meant we enjoyed a very peaceful sleep every night. Jimena is a beautiful location and when not touring surrounding villages we did some great walks around Jimena. Although it was starting to get warm during our visit we cooled down in the creek and the house seemed to stay pretty cool all day.

We had originally intended to stay at Rhonda but found Jimena to be better located to access the coast (Gibralter & Tarifa) and as a base for our visit to Morocco.

In conclusion we would highly recommend Galeria Saro to anyone keen to get an "insiders" view into everyday Spanish life and culture. Sue and Alberto's hospitality and local knowledge combined with the lazy pace of life in a small village meant we had a wonderful relaxing stay and can't wait to book in for our next visit.

If you stay try to get Sue (who is a fine art photographer) to show you some of her amazing photos of the local area - we bought a glorious photo of a white village which made a wonderful memento from our stay in Spain. Also try to get a peek of the view from the courthouse tower which is in the private residence of the house...Sue and Alberto kindly allowed us to venture up for a few photos and it is an amazing view of the village rooftops and the lovely castle.
