I have just returned from an overnight stay at the Scottish Equestrian Centre in Lanark and thoroughly enjoyed the experience.
My friend and I booked this through an itison deal which included a day's riding, lunch and bed and breakfast. We had a one hour lesson followed by a hackaround the old racecourse in the morning and in the afternnoon we had another lesson which included some jumping and a hack through the woods by the golf course in the afternoon.
The instructor (Sandra) was very professional, the horses looked happy and well kept and the facilities were spotlessly clean.
We stayed in the musselburgh room which was a twin room with en-suite, coffeee/tea making facilities/ flat screen tv and very cosy and quiet. We had not expected such comfort but after 4 hours riding it was appreciated!!
We had dinner in the bistro - fab pasta/ pizza and very reasonable price. We noticed afterwards that we were entitled to a 20% discount and a complimentary glass of wine each but this did not come off the bill so I think you would have to ask the waitress when paying the bill if this applies.
The food was excellent quality and the bistro staff extremely helpful.
The only thing I would do differently next time is ask to go on a faster hack in the afternoon, both the lessons worked us hard but the hacks were very slow ie walking only - I would have definitely have expected more trotting and cantering but I realise that the instructor was erring on the side of caution as 2 younger and less experienced riders joined us in the afternoon and she was looking out for them. Little disappointing though for the riders who were more experienced and expected a hack rather than a trek.
I'm sure if we highlighted this before booking next time then the staff would do their best to accomodate us.
All in all a great value with the voucher and would honestly consider going back and paying full price it was that good.
Very impressed with the cleanliness, staff, food and accomodation - thanks to Maureen and her team!

Wow! That's a big review and thankyou so much I'm pleased you enjoyed our centre. The Bistro staff would not have realised you were due a discount, I wish you'd said to them. But next time you visit there will be a complimentary bottle of wine on your table
