“More than just a pub”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 31, 2012

I found the Rose and Crown to be exactly what we wanted. We were travelling to Swansea for football and we wanted to break our journey. It was situated in the small village of Nottage, next door to the sea side harbour of Porthcawl, just off the M4, and about 20 miles from Swansea. The Rose and Crown overlooks the village green. The staff were friendly, the rooms spacious and extremely clean, a fantastic shower, the food excellent, both dinner and breakfast, fresh and good quality and very reasonably priced.

Stayed at the Rose and Crown for two nights (Thurs, Fri) and thoroughly enjoyed it. The staff are excellent and the food and accommodation are absolutely fine. It is very good value for money and if you are looking for a nice pub to stay in and around Porthcawl then look no further. It is a pub so don't expect to go to bed early and not hear noise from the bar. There was live music on the Friday night which finished at about 11.30 pm. We retired to bed after this time and slept very well.

recently returned from a one night stay at the Rose and Crown. Very warm welcome when we checked in and first impressions of the restaurant and bar were good. Rooms are simply but comfortably furnished and very clean although our room opened out onto the fire escape stairs and a beer barrel with loads of cigarette ends was immediately outside our door so not very pleasant to look out!
We ate in the restaurant and the food was excellent as was the beer. Also a great selection of wine. All of this very reasonably priced.
Breakfast was freshly cooked and again good value.
Manager was very friendly.
Would definitely stay and eat here again.

Just returned from a 24 hour trip to Porthcawl with my Wife, we had a lovely stay at the Rose and Crown. The atmosphere in the bar yesterday afternoon was terrific, young children, couples, a lot of giggling and fine food being served. Being a Brains put the beer was spot on as well!.
We booked a table in the evening and had my best-ever steak, my Wife loved her salmon and it was topped off by the biggest melting chocolate pudding I have ever seen, it was fantastic (naughty but nice of course). Would certainly recommend the pub to anyone. The bedroom was spotless too, breakfast nice and relaxed in the restaurant. Good all round, very friendly staff made it special too.

Rose and Crown
We recently stayed at the rose and Crown and had a most enjoyable time. The hotel is situated at Nottage, Porthcawl in quaint back road opposite the enclosed village green. There is a small village stores and post office at the end of the road, all just a very short walk away. We arrived on a cold and wet Sunday afternoon, parking was easy and as I hold a Blue Badge we used the one available disabled space. There were only a few cars but parking may be a problem when it is busy as there is limited space in front of the pub. We were welcomed by a lovely open fire and a well needed glass of ale after our long drive. The low oak beams and stone walls making this rustic and charming pub snug and cosy. The friendly barman checked us in and we were shown to our room. There are ten rooms upstairs ours was at the end of the building with a view to the rear. It was quite small but given this was a very old building they had made the most of the accommodation and it was pleasantly decorated and immaculately cleans with a flat screen Freeview TV and hospitality tray. The bathroom was modern, spacious and again everything was clean and shiny. Fluffy white towels and a range of shampoos and shower gels provided. I did feel a little chilly and as the radiators were working I can only put this down the building and effectiveness of the heating system. We ate in the restaurant that evening. The seafood platter for two with yummy chunky, rustic bread, was delicious. Although this was a starter it filled us out but we had already ordered the main course. It was only £10.95 which was great value.
We had come to porthcawl to visit friends one celebrating her 90th birthday and we had arranged for a small part to be held in the pub on the Monday evening. The staff prepared a snug beamed area of the restaurant where a large table sat 8 of us comfortably. We all had different dishes and everyone thoroughly enjoyed their meal accompanied by some very good red and white wines. The staffs were attentive and served when we were ready. Our guest who is the most amazing lady of 90 years, still very independent and a fantastic example of having a positive attitude and making the very most out of life, stayed well into the evening. The whole evening was a great success and the restaurant bill was very reasonable. On both days we had breakfast in the pub restaurant, a full welsh was available and a range of cereal yoghurts and juices. We did not have the hot breakfast but we noted the other guests seemed very happy with theirs. Our bill for the two nights with breakfast came to just £112.00.
The manageress, Hannah and Chris the barman were very helpful and nothing seemed too much trouble, our thanks to them and all at the Rose and Crown for a lovely break.
