“Views to die for..just not from our tiny cabin!!!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 21, 2012

Indeeed the scenery around this hotel is stunning and the walk to Arnastapi from Hellnar incredible with so much to photograph...Marked down because of the room really...Booked an ocean view...well if you cranked your head sideways you could just glimpse it from the corner of the window!..The Cabin (with number 1 now on the door.) overlooked the car park...would have been ok if the cabin was not so small you could not open your suitcase unless you balanced it on the armchair stuck in the corner or on the bed itself!...this is not shown I now see on booked.com's website!..So make sure you get the ones that overlook the ocean otherwise be prepared for cosiness (Rms 1 or 2!!!)! ..The tiny bathroom is ok..unfortunately when asked if there was a hairdryer we could use was told no, as people apparently had stolen them..as was the issue with the internet cost (the only hotel of eight we stayed in that charged!)...where people had previously excessively downloaded stuff...clearly it's only this hotel that attracts such vagabonds!!..The meals we found compared well to all the other places we ate at whilst touring around Iceland...breakfasts as in most hotels are help yourself..to Skyr (yoghurt), fruits, cheese, tomatoes, herrings, bread, fruit juice and only here did we get to see orcas swimming by whilst we ate!

Room Tip: Go for the Ocean view and check its not the separate cabins..rooms 1 and 2...unless you like compact...

The room was simple but nice. We had blinds to make the room fairly dark, but I still needed the eyeshades to deal with the midnight sun. All the rooms are situated so that you either get a view of the ocean or of Snæfellsjőkull Volcano. We were on the volcano side.

The breakfast buffet was also very nice with several types of herring included.

This hotel is in a great location, within easy access to a wonderful 5 km round-trip hike from the bay at Hellnar to Arnastapi. Of course it is also very close to Snæfellsjőkull National Park.

This hotel has an absolutely stunning location! We unfortunately arrived at our hotel after the regular dining hours...........this was after hours of driving where we had not seen any dining accommodations. When we checked in, the man behind the counter obliged our dining request with the typical Icelandic response of 'but of course'...and offered to bring us soup. The table was beautifully set for us, with a mountain of bread and large portion of soup which just what we needed. THANK you so much!

In the morning, we were greeted with beautiful sheep standing outside our door and a lovely view of the sea. We only wish we had had longer to stay here!

If you are a U.S. traveller, think Motel 6, and your expectations might be met. We agree with others that the location and view are excellent, but the hotel is small and the Internet pic's fail to disclose that an ocean view room is a window facing the ocean and only one room out of 30 or so has a deck (so book early and confirm what you want). Of our 18 days in Iceland this was only one of 2 hotels charging for wi-fi and at a steep price $18.00 per day. When I asked why, I received a surly "because guests cheat us and use it for videos" (clue to the owner, they do make equipment that limits wi-fi to e-mail and Internet only). Why penalize all guests because of a few? Breakfast buffet was again Motel 6 quality and selection. Nothing hot ( not even porridge ) buffet placed in a corner (obviously not laid out by a professional hotelier ) therefore a bottleneck and backlog and the inevitable line crashers too impatient to wait their turn. No coffee service in the rooms (Motel 6 has them) and coffee is $4.00 ( no re-fills, please!). While the restaurant may be good, do yourself a favor and wander down to the jetty and try the selection in the small cafe. Even at steep prices you at least get quality, value, view and pleasant service.

Location could not have been any better. Excellent views of the glacier from the lobby and parking lot. Fun to watch whales from the deck.

Clean and fresh rooms and breakfast was excellent with a great variety. Skyr was excellent.

Bit of an issue with the wi-fi now being chargeable anywhere in the hotel due to some previous guests streaming a bunch of stuff and incurring a huge bill for the hotel. We complained a bit about the ISK 2,000 charge per room for the stay and they eventually waived it. Seems a bit pricey when all you want is to check emails. I am glad they made it right.

Well located to explore the Park and peninsula. Very helpful staff on which roads were open and in filling water bottles.

We had a birthday in our group and the hotel was very accommodating in letting us bring our own cake. We really appreciated that.

Thanks for a great place to stay and explore.

Room Tip: Either ocean view or glacier view is outstanding.

Loved this hotel! The location is perfect, just incredible views and right on the 2.5 km trail to Arnasti. You can walk down a pathway to get to the ocean and view seals, birds and we even saw Orca whales! The rooms are very clean with a nice size bathroom. Staff went well above the call of duty and was very helpful in many ways. We also had dinner at the restaurant which was delicious! The lamb entree was so good, melts in your mouth. The black cod is the best I ever tasted. Also not to be missed are the blue mussels, they are so big and tasty! Definitely a must try at this place. The desserts were all excellent too (tried all 3). The breakfast buffet was very nice too, with more choices than other hotels, including freshly baked croissants. Would love to come back and stay again.

Room Tip: Rooms with ocean view are worth it!

As with most hotels simple and functional. The location and ease to the Snaefellsjokull National Park makes it an ideal location to fully explore the Park and trails. Of course the disadvantage of the midnight sun is that you can explore and wander the unspoiled beauty..
