Just finished a great weeks snowboarding staying over new year at the Grande Claviere and can highly recommend this hotel.
The all inclusive option saves you a fortune and the free drinks from 4.30-10.30pm are extremely free flowing and almost everything is included (draft beer, G&T, whisky etc). We had a full cooked breakfast everyday as well as meats, cheeses and other continental items on offer. Tea and cake was available in the afternoon and an excellent 3 course dinner every night with a variety of choices. The red wine is also surprisingly drinkable, but reports from fellow guests on the white weren't so favourable. Getting a free packed lunch everyday is not something we would normally do but having the option again saved money, but much more sandwich filling is required!
On the chefs night off we'd totally recommend the skidoo trip up to the mountain restaurant. It was amazing value, great food and a memorable experience. Do it.
All the staff are the friendliest, most professional you could hope to come across. Their enthusiasm and the relaxed, friendly atmosphere in the hotel that they help create really makes a difference. To name but a few - Jessica, Dante and Harry doing brilliant work keeping the drinks coming, the lovely Jessica, Stefan, Tom, Oliver, Erin, Lucy and Gemma serving our delicious meals and then the managers and hosts who keep it all running so well, thank you James, Laura, Crewe etc. We met the head chef who is doing a fantastic job, and our thanks go out to his team working behind the scenes.
The set up of the bar area allows lots of friendly interaction between guests and although it is mostly families with kids (we did not have children with us) it did not feel like the children dominated. There was lots to amuse them with Kids Club, the garden outside the bar and games room. They could come and go in a very relaxed way and ate separately each night (if required).
The hotel has the best boot room we've seen with boot warmers for every guest. Only gripe is that there is no wi-fi which you'd expect as standard in a 3 star hotel.
Our bedroom was a good size with comfortable beds (request a second pillow though). We had a balcony with a superb view towards Montgenevre and saw some amazing sunsets. The only problem was the temperature which is centrally regulated. It was so hot at night we had to sleep with the balcony doors open, but then you risk getting a freezing draft. Not good.
It's practically ski-to-the door. Just use the '99' red run, a short, easy off-piste shortcut and then cross the bridge to the golf club next door, and you're in the back garden. If you end up in the area around ski school then it's a pleasant 5 min walk.
It's also next to a piste that runs to ski school and the 2 local chairlifts. If you're on a board we'd recommend joining the piste at the ice rink which is a 1 minute walk from the boot-room. Skiers can join higher up and pole the flat section before the ice rink.
The hotel is 5 mins to all things in the small pretty resort which has a handful of bars, restaurants and shops.
We had a great stay at the Grande Claviere and would definitely return, and well done to Crystal on putting together such a good team.
Thanks for a great week,
Duncan & Anna
