“A perfect hotel in every way”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 26, 2010

We have recently come back from a one week stay at the Hotel Bes whilst skiing in Claviere. It was our second visit and on both occassions we had a superb stay. Right from the initial welcome to the time of departure every member of staff was superb. I don't think I have ever felt so 'at home' in a hotel. The food is excellent, the service is faultless and the hotel is located literally over the road from the slopes. I don't know what they could do to improve anything - a perfect little hotel.

We have just returned from the lovely Hotel Bes. You could not get a better location -just across the road from the chair lift. The rooms are comfortable, if a little small. The bathrooms are excellent. What made it for us was the staff and the superb food - it was sooooo good! We need to go on diets now as the four courses in the half board was so good we had to eat it all! Breakfasts offer a good continental spread - no complaints there either! The staff were so willing and really helped to make our holiday excellent. We will be returning...

We were looking for a long ski weekend, many hotels wouldnt take less than a week, but hotel Bes were very accomodating, the hotel is central and near the ski slopes, the rooms especially the exec rooms at the front were very weel appointed for 3 star and room 403 9a triple) in the eaves was very spacious even for three people. The evening meal was not so good, but there is a good restaurant just above the Hotel on the same side which serves excellent Italian food, no one in the kitchen under about 65 !Nightlife is zero so if you are lookiing for a wild time then you wont get much of it !Claviere is OK for skiing but nearby Montgenevre is good for beginners and intermediates, my husband was not tested as an advanced skier.Pefect for a long weekend.

Just returned from a week in Claviere staying in the Bes. We are fans of Claviere and decided to treat ourselves to the best hotel in the village, and wern't disappointed.
The facilities, food and location were top class as was the service. We had room 209 with a 4 poster bed overlooking the slopes. We would highly recommend it if you want a real luxury treat in a great ski resort.
However beware of the following:
The hotel has no apres ski atomsphere and is a bit stuffy. For our special ocassion though this was what we wanted.
Drinks were expensive. Water was 3 Euros and the cheapest house wine was 20 Euros.
Beer was 7.50 Euros a pint.
Breakfast was excellent and you could eat loads, but by the end of the week was boring though lack of changes.
Dinner was excellent also with 4 courses, we would not have liked to pay the 40 Euros each though if we had not been on a package. Service was good but too quick. As soon as you finished eating your plate was whisked away and the next course arrived seconds later! We had to ask them to slow down..
The rooms are small with not a lot of storage but we are used to that in ski resorts. Bathroom and shower was excellent - bath would have really made it for us.
The ski locker room is too small and fortunately we went out late.
We have been to Claviere 5 times now and just love the resort and the people. However it is not a good resort for beginners or for serious mileage skiers. You can ski the whole resort in 2 hours. Do buy a lift pass that takes in Montgenevre as the skiing in MG is excellent especially for beginners and intermediates. The one down side is the links.
It is easy to get over to MG but not so easy to get back. You need to be a reasonable skier to take the runs back. The run back over the top has a difficult black to negioate. You can come back along the side of the road but it involves a lot of poling and hard work for the upper body. You can get back from the right hand side of the main road when conditions are good but get very soft in the afternoons.
Don't be fooled into buying a Milky way pass as it takes ages to get to Sestriere and Sauzy Doulx - like 2 hours there and 2 hours back (when the links are open).
Overall though if you are an intemediate skier and want a small friendly resort with virtually no lift queues then Claviere is the place to be.
The resort could be improved with the replacement of the main 4 man chair out of te village with a fast 6 man (Isuspect this will come soon).

The hotel is positioned centrally in the small village, about a 100 metres (slippery) walk away from the nearest chair lift. It is clean, modern and comfortable with helpful and polite staff. We occupied room 203 which was rather small, with little storage space and surprising, nowhere to hang your coats. The boot room is really useful and the boot warmers are great. We were room only and bought our breakfasts each day for 8 Euros each which we thought was good value. There was a good selection of food and you ate as much as you wanted. The barman Luka was a friendly chap but the drinks were expensive (especially beer).
Our diesel hire car froze up (as the warning signs in Turin Airport said it might!) just as we were about to leave for our flight home. Roberto was a star and very quickly organised a mechanic to get us going. Heed the warnings! Use a fuel additive or top up with fuel in the mountains where additives is already included.
We were very happy with the hotel which is probably the best in Claviere. However, it didn't have the vibrant atmosphere of some of the less expensive ones nearby.

  • Liked — Clean tidy and close to the ski lifts
  • Disliked — Small room with not much storage space

We stayed at Hotel Bes for one week which covered the New year. The management of the hotel were very co-operative with our booking and gave us all the info we needed regarding transfers and Ski hire etc.
The hotel is located across the road from the chair lifts (about 60 yards walk) and has its own boot & ski storage room which is ideal especially when you have younger children. The ski hire shop is just next door. All in all location is perfect! And only 80 mins transfer time from Turin airport.
The rooms are of a good size and easily accomodated the four of us (2 adults and 2 children aged 9&11) although the kids did complain that the top bunk was a bit small. The room had sky tv (big plus with the kids) and bathroom was very good although we often felt the need for a soak in the bath after a day on the slopes this was not possible as the bathroom only had a very good shower. the hotel has a wellness centre inc Sauna steam and massage chairs but this was considered expensive at €29 per hour and not worth the money.
we stayed B&B and breakfast was excellent and service good, at night we tried the local restuarants and bars and found the best to located right next door to the hotel.
As for the skiing it is good but could be improved dramatically with improved links between Claviere and Montgenevre just 1 mile away in france, however the two do not see to work together for the benefit of the skiers. The area is not great for improving kids with only two blue runs available and a lot of the reds are a bit daunting for the begginers, but the area is ideal for itermediate skiers.
Last year we went to Passo Tonale which we found cheaper but the resorts are similar in many respects.
All in all i would reccomend the Hotel Bes as excellent accom which is ideally located.

Just come back from a weeks skiing in Claviere.

Location - fantastic. On the main road and opposite the slopes (about 30 meters walk).

Food - Breakfast was nothing to write home about. The evening meal however was 4 courses and very good. Only thing was that we were staying half board and it really wasnt clear what was included: The charged us for desserts (E4 pp each per night) and also the New Years meal (E80 pp) - both of which were later deducted due to the HB confusion - but only after intervention from our rep. They also charged us for the water (E3.50 per bottle) which we thought was cheeky on HB especially given we werent given the option of tap water. Not a nice suprise when you get your bill! As an aside if you're not staying HB, starters were E8, primi E12 and mains E16. Drinks at the bar were E5 for beers and E7 for cocktails - pricey however you did get nice bar snacks!

Room - we stayed in 101 just by the front door and it has to be the noisiest hotel room we've ever stayed in due to constantly slamming fire doors. The window was also really draughty and we struggled to get the room above 18C. There was a serious lack of storage space for our clothes. On the plus side it was very clean and modern.

General: We were suprised at how little was included: We were charged E4 (hourly rate) for using the internet (which we hadnt). We also were shocked (given this is a ski resort and the basic rooms didnt have baths) that to use the hot-tub you had to pay E30 per hour per person (though that did get you entry to the spa). The staff were all really polite and helpful, and as said previously the hotel was very clean and modern. The locker room was too small and we often had to wait to get in, but we did appreciate the heated boot rack. Personally, given the lack of things included in the price and facilities, I would put the hotel at 3*.
