If you are looking for a place to stay in the Caribbean, stay here. Discovery is on the side of Marigot Bay, with the rainforest on one side, mangroves on the other and the sea straight in front of you.

The buildings have been designed with a nob to South East Asia. Think the grand wooden houses of Thailand or Malaysia - all dark wood and shaded balconies. The rainforest comes right up to the back of the site, so it looks as if it's emerging from the trees, but this is several levels above a jungle hut.

Although the buildings have a traditonal look from the outside, on the inside they are high spec. Flatscreen TVs in every room, Bose sounds systems, coffee machines in the bedroom and a fantatstic kitchen appoiinted with chrome applicances and halogen uplighters. The bathrooms are huge, with walk-in drench showers and stone floors to keep them cool, and the full height built in wardrobes give you enough space to stash your stuff.

The modern touches are nicely offset by the traditional furnishings, with dark wood floors and huge balconies with plunge pools.

There are two excellent pools, a large bar and an excellent restaurant. The beach at the mouth of the bay can only be reached by boat and there is a free ferry that will take you over there. Sailing boats etc can be hired and are free to hotel guests. The staff are extremely efficient and friendly.

There are five good restaurants lining the bay too, all within walking distance or a two-minute ferry ride, and a marina village next to Discovery has shops and a small supermarket.

We stayed 2 nights at Discovery Marigot Bay. Paid 545$US/night for the top floor suite with the plunge pool, kitchen, 2 story unit (1 bedroom/2bath). Nice A/C unit on the second floor made for a nice sleep. Having a kitchen and washer/dryer was great. The top floor units have spectacular views of marigot bay. There are alot of steps to climb, but wow, is it ever worth it. Building 20 is next to the rain forest so you have a bit more privacy and you can skinny dip in your plunge pool. Most units are relatively exposed so if privacy is something you want, request an upper unit back along the forest--buildings 18, 20 and 21. I think the best unit for privacy/views is probably 2121 (Building 21 uis the highest up, with the best views--and the longest hike!),

If you are with young children, just go for a ground floor unit--Buldings 1 through 4. Have a great trip!

Some friends asked us to go to St. Lucia an island I have never been to before. We stayed at Discovery at Marigot Bay. Our aprtment of two bedroom and baths was spectacular. Two couples had totally private bedroom areas with a shared living space and an open kitchen I wish I had at home. We had THREE balconies overlooking the bay! The view of the bay was gorgeous and the pool was enormous surrounded by flowers and large yachts. I felt like a celebrity. The restaurants had very good continental food, but for me the star was the their hamburgers which were amazing. Who would have figured that I'd find a great burger there. Discovery is a 5 minute walk to a small intimate little shopping area that has sandwhich shops, a market, liquor store. Discovery is not a huge complex where you are surrounded by hundreds of tourists. It is quiet and very relaxing. There is a shuttle boat, a dingy really, that takes less than 5 minutes to go across the bay to a nice sand beach and a fist class restaurant. I wouldn't hesitate to go back either alone or with friends. A great surprise was how affordable Discovery is. A world away for the stresses of life Discovery was the perfect vacation for me.

Our honeymoon was in Paris, France and 10 years later we decided on St. Lucia.
A fellow tennis pro introduced us and he was from St. Lucia. Well, for our 10th Anniversary we landed on St. Lucia. Its' winding roads and high elevation was symbolic of our relationship. Our special night was celebrated with a fabulous dinner in the fabled "Tree House". The amenities (sunset cruise, trip to the Tetons, snorkling) were great. As to the views and accomodations; Excellent. The owners representative and hotel manager were very gracious in making sure our dinners and excursions were well appointed. We will be back for our 15th if not sooner. Hire a driver. The roads can be treacherous, especially at night.

Discovery is absolutely amazing, from start to finish, with a quietly elegant, relaxed, luxurious atmosphere.

We had a resort-view room with our own plunge pool. The room and the property were modern, well decorated, and well kept. Every little thing had been thought of in terms of amenities and service.

We had the complimentary breakfast each morning, and it was quite good. The Hurricane Hole was great for lunch, or you can walk down to the marina where there is a casual restaurant and a little market where one day we bought bread and cheese and chocolate to snack on in our room (we had a fridge). For dinner the main restaurant and the Hurricane Hole were excellent. One night we went over to Doolittle's for dinner by water taxi - it picks you up just in the other side of the blue marina buildings. That dinner was okay, but not as good as at Discovery. We loved the evening atmosphere with live music, friendly staff, and visitors from yachts/other hotels.

The staff were polite and very genuine. I honestly can't think of a single thing I would change about this hotel. I would certainly return - the sooner the better!
