just returned from my honeymoon, we stayed at this hotel for 10 nights and have not one complaint, the beach there is not the best but there is free kyaking etc available. also the hotel will bring you to (i can't remember the name of it) the beach between the pitons on their speed boat for a half day or full day free of charge, every day if you like, theres some good snorkeling here (they give you the snorkles free too). the rooms in the hotel are excellent, we got a suite which has a great kitchen with a washer/dryer even. the private outdoor jacuzzi was great. the fridge is all stocked up with water, juices, coke, ginger ale and a couple of beers every day, this is free too!! free bottle of champagne on arrival. we checked in late and as i had emailed to let them know we were checking in late they had set aside 2 plates of food for us, which was greatly appreciated after the long flight. the only problem i have with the hotel is the food, the breakfast is good, not brilliant but you get plenty of it, the hurricane hole food is probably a little better than you would expect from bar food but there isnt a great choice on the menu, we ate there most nights tho, it was good and reasonably priced, great for lunch, and the waiter/barman is, as he would say ,"CooOOOool!" the biggest let down was the Boudreau resturant. for 60+Euros ($90) you expect alot more, the service is great its just the food. not enough flavors but the ones that are there are too stong i thought.
you hear alot of other reviews saying the locals annoy you trying to sell you things etc. i found them to be ok, alot of dudes offering you a water taxi, but whats the harm in that? their offering a service and it works out a bit cheaper than the road taxis if you know how to haggle the price. most of them leave you alone if you just say no.
All things considered, we had a great stay and were sad to leave, but hopefully we'll be able afford to come back again soon.

My advice to anyone looking for the cheapest way to a 5 star honeymoon is to stay in the discovery hotel, use the free trips they put on offer and RENT A CAR for a couple of days! we didnt but we should have, taxis are too expensive there. if your coming from europe (we came from ireland) AA do a 3 connection long way around flight that works out 4 times cheaper than the direct flight. 4 times longer but what you save on the flight you can use to have a good time when you get there. ;)

oh yes and the 7 nights for the price of 5 is great!! there was also a free coctail night on tuesday where the managment meet the guests and you can ask them any questions or whatever, it was a nice touch i thought.

We just got back from a 5 night stay at Discovery at Marigot Bay and it was great! The quality of service is absolutely fabulous! The service is comparable to a 5 star hotel, and was much better than the luxury resort Anse Chastanet (which we stayed 2 nights at after Discovery). The resort itself is very nice, the rooms are chic, clean and have all of the amenities that you need. Marigot Bay is beautiful, although it did rain quite a bit while we were there, but we heard that the weather has been funky the past couple of weeks. Jason and Tracy, the folks working at the concierge desk were very knowledgeable and helpful in booking all of our excursions (we booked the adventure package at the hotel which is highly suggested as it's fun and is a great value!). Jason even booked a complimentary speed boat transfer to Anse Chastanet after our stay at Discovery! The included breakfast is very good-it has good food and a ton of variety. We ate dinner at every restaurant in the vicinity and Broudeau, the restaurant at Discovery, was by far, the best. It was pricey (albiet comparable to the other restaurants in the area), but of NYC quality. It was better than Rainforest Hideaway, which is nearby and is the highly recommended restaurant in the area. All in all, we were incredibly happy with the hotel, service, amenities, and value of Discovery.

“carribean chic”

Discovery at Marigot Bay

we stayed at the discovery marigot bay for a week in march and v much enjoyed it
firstly to mention is i booked directly with the hotel on something called the honeymoon package ( you dont have to be married!) and it was well worth it -included were a couples massgage , half day private yacht cruise , horse riding and a treehouse meal - 3 courses of your chosing - which when taken together definately was worth more that the add on ( more details on the hotels website )
- the resort is based around a habour so is a pool rather than beach place so you get to see 200 ft yachts dock an can stroll down and see what 10 million pouns gets you with the beach for the resort a 1 minute boat ride away - we didnt use it as it wasnt great but the hotel provides free water shuttle service to other resorts beaches ( jalousie etc) so you can go and then come back a few hours later
the pool is with a seperate kids pool- there is also a smaller pool near one of the bars and seems to accomodate enough people without too much trouble with the general pool food really pretty good
- the rooms are big an airy with balconys and are in dark wood and 4 poster beds and big bathrooms with the added bonus of a FREE minibar so soft drinks etc are topped up on a daily basis which is a v nice addition as is the coffee maker and a decent tv with dvd collection if it rains and there are only a limited number of rooms so not too many people around
- also worth mentioning is that some of the rooms come with a kitchen and we met a number of couples who had v young children who found it v useful
- the food is v good and for a resort is well priced -our boat captain said the bar did the islands best burgers but we mainly had fish and lobster - both in the main restaurant and in the more casual hurricane bar which again was v good value and across the bay are 2-3 restaurants ( rainforest cafe seemed to be the one people recommened ) which are seperate from the hotel and are a water taxi away and there is also a shopping area just outside with sandwich shops and craft shops
otherwise there is a espa spa and gym to pass the time as well but basically just a relaxing place to enjoy the sun and read a book
not too much to do for young kids and only a few were there at the time and the service is still a little "carribean" but generally good and the conciege desk is helpful in booking all things

We stayed for 2 weeks in the Discovery during August. The hotel was perfect from the start - an iced cocktail on arrival at the hotel lodge while our bags were whisked away by the porter. We were then escorted to our bay view room perched on the hillside, with a view of the marina, bay and surrounding hills. The hotel was fairly empty (busier over winter) but this suited us because the staff were very attentive and could not do enough for us. Vanessa the concierge was very helpful in arranging yacht hire and water taxis. The hotel was a very good base from which to get water taxis up and down the island (forget driving - water taxis are the best way to get around). Recommend 1. chartering a yacht to Soufriere for snorkelling and sunset view on the sail back to Marigot Bay 2. lunch at Ladera overlooking the Pitons. 3. bathing in hot springs at Soufriere. 4. Fish Friday at Anse la Raye (via a water taxi speeding over the bay under the moonlight was a highlight) and 5. Rainforest zip-lining. The hotel has an excellent spa (Mrs.R was very content). We were upgraded to a full suite in the 2nd week after a minor leak in our bathroom was discovered. The bay has a couple of great restaurants (Rainforest Hideaway is special) but the Discovery has the choice of an excellent restaurant or the Hurricane Hole bar. I don't say this often about hotels but I would definitely return to this place.

“Perfect for relaxing”

Discovery at Marigot Bay

We have just come back from spending 12 days at Discovery, and had a really relaxing time there. We stayed in a 1 bed Bayview Suite, which I would recommend if you are used to 5*
accommodation. We did not experience any problems with reserving Sun Beds etc, or with the quality of food. The Staff were all excellent, and so very friendly, they all seemed to enjoy their work and would do everything they could to satisfy you. My husband went fishing one day and caught a 10lb king fish, he brought it back to the Hotel, and Frederic the Chef, prepared it, and cooked it for Dinner and also Lunch the next day. He even took the time to write out the recipe for me as it was so delicious, thank you Frederic, you are a star!!!!! All this as well as cooking and organising the food for the Govenor's reception for Prince Charles and Camilla.

The Management were very visible, and we met the new Manager Jayson, who has got some terrific ideas for the Resort, we shall look forward to experiencing these next time we visit.
Jayson, we look forward to arriving by Seaplane from the main Airport, although a Luxury Boat would be equally welcome!!

We found Discovery to be a very relaxing resort, and highly recommend it..
