So, this was a real challenge for me… I’ve vacillated between 3 and 4 stars, but ultimately, our personal experience here was strongly positive. However, there are definite drawbacks to the place, so you’ll have to determine what your priorities are.
We had a nice villa with a full kitchen and a lovely, spacious deck. The kitchen is fully equipped (coffee maker, microwave, oven, pretty much every pot, pan, utensil, pot and colander you can imagine) - we were able to make breakfast every day (and a couple of dinners). The deck provides an incredibly lovely view of scenic Marigot Bay. The location is about as well-situated as you can be in St. Lucia if you are planning to visit the popular sites on the island (75-90 min. to Soufriere & the Pitons, 15-30 to Castries and points north). Marigot Bay has several excellent restaurant options (our favorite and the most ‘local’ experience being Julietta’s), and the main town across the bay has a solid supermarket for the aforementioned cooking-in. The staff is excellent - incredibly helpful for matters large and small.
The negatives – the villa is comfy, but there were creeping signs of age (if not disrepair). Knobs falling off of drawers… towels and sheets a touch on the rough side. Our water apparently went off one overnight, when we had an early Piton tour planned – the problem was fixed by the time we got home that afternoon, but not early enough for us to shower that morning. Taxis to get away from from Marigot (water or land) are a bit expensive, but that seems a fact of life across the island. Ultimately, I wanted to be out by the water or on the deck, so I found these to be minor nuisances, but if a vacation for you primarily hinges on comfort/luxury, or like the option of resting indoors, you may find some things here lacking.
One other thing to consider is the hotel beach – its decent for a day or two, but not of size/scope to hold you there all week. We were hoping to travel around the island anyway, but if you are looking for one beach to rest on all week, I don’t think this would suffice. Also, you are going to get solicited pretty aggressively on the beach by natives for water taxis, tours, coconut sales, and seranades. I mean, I’m used to NYC subway solicitation, and I still found it overly-aggressive. I think its unavoidable on the island, but it seemed particularly pronounced at Marigot.
The price seemed reasonable – comparable to other places in the area, so again… I'd decide what your priorities/preference are in your Lucia stay – we ultimately found ourselves comfortable and at peace here, but based on our searches, you could probably find something that suited your needs better at a similar rate.
If you stay here and cook (or bring leftovers back), make sure to bring extra for the lovely cats that seem to reside on the property! Three sweet kitties came to visit us several nights – made it feel like our villa came with free outdoor vacation pets!
