We had initially booked into the Ocean Cottage (had the upper floor, west end) and were very disappointed with the unit. Temperature control was very difficult because of the mosquitoes. There is no AC and in order to cool the room for sleep, you neeeded to leave two sets of doors wide open. There is a mosquito net but if you use it, you can't get a breath of air.
However, we contacted Guest Services (who are fabulous) and they arranged for us to upgrade to one of the Club Villas and we were extremely happy with that unit. It was $30 a night more but very worth it. The units are well supplied with small appliances, dishes, etc. The view was incredible. There were a couple of minor maintenance issues and once reported, they were corrected that same day. Also, as mentioned, Guest Services is second to none. We booked several things through there and they were very efficient! Nanjhala is absolutely terrific.
The best snorkeling is definitely Anse Chastenet. Anse Cochon is just okay - water is more murky and less fish variety and number. If you can afford it, book the day trip down to the Grenadines. You fly to Union Island, board a catamaran and travel to different Islands (including Tobago Cay which has fantastic snorkeling), have breakfast and lunch on board. The breakfast is just okay (toast and fruit) but the lunch is absolutely terrific. And....the rum punch keeps coming all day.
We also went to Martinique for an overnight trip - don't bother. It is not a laid back vacation place but a bustling Province of France. We were glad to get back to St. Lucia.
We took two trips with Michael aboard the sail boat Rx. Both days were terrific and Michael is very knowledgeable. Ask him about his sister, Stella's, restaurant. If you want a real taste of local food this is where to go.
Highly recommend the Rain Forest Restaurant and Boudreau's at Discovery for expensive but incredible meals. Chateau My'Go across Marigot Bay is also very good and not as pricey. Doolittle's Restaurant is having some problems. They often don't have items that are listed on the menu, service is slow to say the least and food is only ho-hum. Breakfast is okay, though.
