We had initially booked into the Ocean Cottage (had the upper floor, west end) and were very disappointed with the unit. Temperature control was very difficult because of the mosquitoes. There is no AC and in order to cool the room for sleep, you neeeded to leave two sets of doors wide open. There is a mosquito net but if you use it, you can't get a breath of air.

However, we contacted Guest Services (who are fabulous) and they arranged for us to upgrade to one of the Club Villas and we were extremely happy with that unit. It was $30 a night more but very worth it. The units are well supplied with small appliances, dishes, etc. The view was incredible. There were a couple of minor maintenance issues and once reported, they were corrected that same day. Also, as mentioned, Guest Services is second to none. We booked several things through there and they were very efficient! Nanjhala is absolutely terrific.

The best snorkeling is definitely Anse Chastenet. Anse Cochon is just okay - water is more murky and less fish variety and number. If you can afford it, book the day trip down to the Grenadines. You fly to Union Island, board a catamaran and travel to different Islands (including Tobago Cay which has fantastic snorkeling), have breakfast and lunch on board. The breakfast is just okay (toast and fruit) but the lunch is absolutely terrific. And....the rum punch keeps coming all day.

We also went to Martinique for an overnight trip - don't bother. It is not a laid back vacation place but a bustling Province of France. We were glad to get back to St. Lucia.

We took two trips with Michael aboard the sail boat Rx. Both days were terrific and Michael is very knowledgeable. Ask him about his sister, Stella's, restaurant. If you want a real taste of local food this is where to go.

Highly recommend the Rain Forest Restaurant and Boudreau's at Discovery for expensive but incredible meals. Chateau My'Go across Marigot Bay is also very good and not as pricey. Doolittle's Restaurant is having some problems. They often don't have items that are listed on the menu, service is slow to say the least and food is only ho-hum. Breakfast is okay, though.

We really enjoyed our stay but had a few problems. The downstairs sleeping is fine but the foldout couch was pretty bad. It was fine for children but lacking for adults. There were 7 of us in 2 units. Hotel services were great. Bring food in for breakfast or go to the coffee shop across the bay. We paid a fortune at the restaurant below Oasis. The location was wonderful..

Our stay at the Ocean Cottage was beyond our expectations. It was quiet, the view of the bay from our terrace was spectacular, the constant breezes were refreshing, and the waves crashing on the beach below was relaxing. We loved the birds visiting us at breakfast on the terrace. The bull finches' antics were entertaining, and we enjoyed the exotic plants, and hummingbirds, and awoke to many different bird calls. The sunsets were beautiful and the convenience of a pool was an asset too. And all this before we even left our cottage!! We really got lots of enjoyment from the trolley that took us up and down the hilliside to our cottage. We shared rides with and met fellow visitors who also were very friendly. The views of the bay while riding the trolley were gorgeous and made the slow ride up all the better. The staff was very helpful, prompt, and courteous. Any excursions we were interested in, they would gladly set them up for us. Jean, the water taxi driver, was much appreciated for his kind manner and helpfulness. He was always prompt and very courteous. We lifted our camera to take a picture and he would stop his boat for us and comment on the area. He took us snorkeling and would help us in and out of the boat which could be comical at times. The beach was nice and we snorkeled a bit there too while swimming with a school of angel fish and other fish as they meandered in the swimming area. The ferry drivers were pleasant. The market across the bay was great too, as they provided needed services with a bank, grocery store, bakery, gift shop, and restaurants. We loved our stay at Oasis Marigot Bay and would not hesitate to recommend them for relaxing treats and a wonderful vacation site.

Finally writing our review from our stay at the Villa St. Lucia at Oasis Marigot. What a wonderful week we had during February 08. We have become Caribbean addicts over the last few years and try a different island each February. This was our 3rd "island trip" and we totally loved St. Lucia and our villa. We stayed on the second floor of Villa St. Lucia and it was just the two of us. The expansive screened-in porch was awesome with its amazing view of the bay and the sun setting each evening. It was fully enjoyed. We had our own plunge pool on the first level which we shared with the first floor occupants whom we never really encountered at the pool area. It was so relaxing in the late afternoon as my husband enjoyed his "Piton Beer" time and just the beauty of the foliage and view around us. The restaurant at the base of the hill, "Doolittle's", was just great. Their breakfast was scrumptious as were their dinner entrees. We never had anything to complain about. The evenings were filled with meeting great people and enjoying the live music on certain evenings as well. Some of the other great restaurants that we sampled were "The Rainforest Hideaway" (top notch), "Chateau My Go" (I know I spelled this wrong) which was awesome too!!, and over at The Discovery Resort. Make sure that you rent a car and explore the island. The driving really isn't that bad and my husband loved every minute of it!!! One day we ventured to the town of Souffriere to experience the beauty of the Pitons and checked out the Sunday brunch offered at Ladera Resort. The restaurant there is called "DaSheen" and what a phenomenal view you will get, it was amazing!!! This is a must do thing!!! Try and get down to the beach area between the Pitons called Jalousie Beach. It was well worth the drive down. We also went to the Friday Night Fish Fry in the town of Anse Le Ray. The locals prepare feasts of lobster, conch, rice w/veggies, all kinds of wonderful things. It was a cultural experience to say the least.
There are so many things to see and do on this island that one week is not enough. We played golf, went horseback riding, and just enjoyed the whole island. The people are so friendly and always talk with you. It was such a true carribbean feel to this island in comparison to others we had been to. We would go back to St. Lucia again easily. Also, Oasis Marigot is a super place to stay at and was always very clean and helpful in anything you needed.

We stayed at one of the villas. It was very relaxing and my 5-year-old absolutely loved the fact that he could eat on the patio and feed the birds at the same time! He had a blast!

At night we would be lulled to sleep by the Caribbean breezes. And during the day, we even had a pirate ship drop anchor!

All in all, a great break from the winter cold in New York.
