We just returned from a trip to St. Lucia the week of February 16 - 13. The Inn on the Bay was one of the real highlights of a great trip filled with fun, adventure an gorgeous scenery. Our 4 days at the Inn on the Bay will be remembered fondly for years to come. The peaceful beauty of Marigot Bay is most relaxing, and you could not ask for better hosts than Normand and Louise! The inn is spotless and cheerful with large airy rooms, and the views cannot be beat. A steady mild breeze keeps the air very comfortable.
Normand is very friendly and funny, and will do almost anything to help make your stay enjoyable. Louise is also very warm and friendly and a great baker. We quickly felt like they were old friends, and shared many laughs and a few stories with them. The Inn on the Bay is at the top of our list of places we would like to return to. It is a great alternative to the overcrowded and impersonal resort scene.
The only downside: returning home to 18 inches of snow this week!!

“Lovely views, lovely hosts”

The Inn on the Bay

Feb 28, 2008

This incredible location affords sweeping sunset views at the end of every day -- and incredible bay views. It's on a point about 300 feet up (just one property from the edge of the point). Just a stunning place.

The only thing more enjoyable? The hosts. Wonderful, fun people. Bring your sense of humor (or Norm can probably locate one for you). The rooms are comfortable (beds a bit on the firm side but hey) and functional, but you won't spend much time in them probably.

The beach down at the bay was very relaxing and plenty spacious. Walk down the other way to a rough, deserted cove with a tiny rocky beach. Ask one of the local boat guides which rock it's safe to jump off (requires a short swim to get there.) The music from the restaurants was my only negative, but you're going to hear that everywhere in Marigot Bay. Even though it's small, it's hopping. Rainforest was by far the best restaurant--most expensive too.

The Inn is a wonderful play and a great deal too. Highly recommended.

“A wonderful place to stay”

The Inn on the Bay

Feb 27, 2008

We spent a wonderful 9 days in January with Normand and Louise. The views are breathtaking, the rooms large, light, spotlessly clean and airy and the breakfast's great. In the morning you can soak up the sun by the pool and take in the view of the yachts in Marigot Bay and in the afternoon enjoy the view from the front of the house of the sea and the wonderul sunsets. There is a breakfast room open throughout the day where you can help yourself to a wide selection of teas, coffee and hot chocolate which makes it feel even more homely!
Your wonderful hosts really make the trip though. Not only are you staying in a setting where it is impossible not to relax but you feel that you are in such good hands that you have none of the usual initial worries about how to get about and where the best place to eat is and which trips you shoud get booked because Normand knows all there is to know and is very happy to organise things for you. When we arrived tired on our first evening it was wonderful to be told that he would be ready to drive us down to the hill to a local restaurant an hour later - we were able to relax immediately and just get on with enjoying our holiday. It was also clear that Normand genuinely cared about us having a great time. When a boat trip we had planned had to be cancelled due to technical problems, Normand met us from the boat, picked us up in the car with an alternative iteneray suggestion and an offer to drive us there - so that we didn't just return to base feeling like we had wasted the day. I have never been anywhere where you get that kind of service - it was like staying with a friend!
The location is also, in our opinion, the best on the island. You are away from any kind of over development but have a great selection of lovely restaurants on your door step and with Normand dropping you off and picking you up each night, you are able to feel like you are getting away from everything as you return to the Inn, up the hil, surrounded by nothing but the sounds of nature.
Cannot recommend highly enough!!

“Best Hoteliers!”

Although I have only been in 30+ countries, I believe that the owner-operators of Inn on the Bay--Normand Viau and his wife, Louise Boucher--cannot be equaled anywhere in the world. Whatever information you would like about what to see and do and whatever reservations and transportation you may need, Norman will flawlessly advise you and immediately make arrangements for you. Their five-room inn is located above the entrance to Marigot Bay (which James Michener reportedly said is the most beautiful bay in the Caribbean) in the cooling trade winds. Around the small bay you'll find 6-1/2 excellent restaurants, a small grocery store, a bank (with an ATM machine), a small beach and, of course, a few gift shops. Taxis are always available to go elsewhere on St. Lucia.
