Villas las Brujas means "houses of witches" - and this hotel certainly lives up to its name - in a most negative way.
Both service and standard was a disgrace. There is in fact only one positive thing to say about this hotel: The beach is excellent.
We met the first "witch" already in the reception, at arrival. A very cold, unfriendly woman made us feel down-right unwelcome there. We had ordered and payed for a room with ocean view - but she actually denied this until we said what we paid. Then she just replied "what ever", and gave us the key.
The room had a sea view, all right. A pity then, that the windows were so dirty that you almost could not enjoy it. Worst of all: The room were stinking from mold. You could actually see the mold growing on the walls and in the ceiling. The wardrobe was ground zero for the mold - impossible to use off course.
The room were so dirty in general that it was just disgusting. Even the sheets on the beds were dirty, stained and full of holes. The room was full of ants, and their "buffet" was on the dirty sheets. They crawled all over. Off course we complained right away. The hotel manager promised new sheets - but nothing happened. We complained again, and were promised new sheets - nothing happened. We actually had to take of the dirty sheets ourselves, and give it to the cleaning lady.
Ants were not the only animals in the room: Termites had a feast eating up the roof over the sinks by the bathroom. You could actually see how the woodwork fell down like fine powder in the sink and over our towels. There were also dead bugs by the coffee machine.
In addition the safe was not working and the toilet not flushing down. So much for a room with a view.
Then there is the restaurant. The staff were more friendly here. But the food was not. In particular the breakfast is a joke. We actually laughed. Some dry, white bread, jam and overcooked omelet with really bad tasting bacon and sausages. The fresh juice was pretty good, though.
For lunch and dinner there is a (pricy) menu. But one day they did not have eggs. The next no cheese. Then no pork and the next no chicken, before they topped it by not having either. And there is no other options around.
On top of everything is the manager: He don´t care at all. That is, he cares for money. When he made us a "good price" for a trip to the mainland and back, we learned afterwards that the price was the double price of what other tourists payed when contacting the taxi themselves.
Maybe we were just unlucky? Well, when we told the manager what we thought about him and his hotel before we left, there was another guest waiting behind us. The last thing we heard before we left was him saying: "I have been without hot water for days now, and you told me to fix it..."
