We've been to Anguilla numerous times over the past 5 years but had never tried Coba at Viceroy. Since a few of our favorite restaurants had already closed for the season, we decided to go to Coba one night. WHAT A MISTAKE!! We were a family of 7 (6 adults and one four year old). We made reservations 3 days in advance because we wanted a window seat overlooking the water. Upon making this request with the reservation, we were told, "No problem, you'll have a table at the windows". Our reservation was for 7:30pm and we arrived about 15 minutes early. We were promptly seated by 7:30, if not a few minutes early, but did not receive a window table. Instead, we were in the middle of the restaurant with no views and felt like we could have been at any other large, upscale hotel in the United States. Within 10 minutes, we placed our appetizer and entree orders. One of the appetizers we ordered was the fried calamari which wasn't very good. It was mostly fried breading and the size were all small, very little calamari itself. We received our appetizers within 30 minutes of being seated. Not fast, but not unusual. However, it wasn't until 95 minutes after being seated that our entrees were served. When I inquired with our waitress what the hold up was, she informed me that too many people were either booked at the same time or showed up for dinner at the same time. Well.....either way, it's an unacceptable excuse, particularly since we made reservations 3 days in advance. What this statement told us was that Coba is more interested in filling up their huge restaurant when people call to make a reservation, regardless of whether they can serve their diners properly. They seemed to be more about getting you in there than having you return as a happy customer. Those of us who has the braised short ribs as our entree were happy with our food. Those who ordered the pasta bolognese, were split. One person enjoyed it and the other person thought it was just average. When we finished our entrees, we had already been sitting more than 2 hours! So at that point we skipped dessert and paid the bill. With all the other great restaurants on Anguilla, we can say for certain, we will NOT be back to the Coba.
