“Beautiful location but average food”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed December 10, 2013

We stopped for breakfast and the place was not busy at all. Service was laid back; food was average at best; noticed credit card charge was a couple of dollars higher than what was posted. I didn't bother to enquire why because we were at the car when I noticed. The place is beautiful and that helps with the average food and service.

“Saved Us!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 8, 2013

We arrived on the island later in the evening and without luggage and were tired and hungry. The hostess at Straw Hat graciously accommodated us despite our sweat pants attire. The food was very good-chicken and rice and fish-a little pricey but worth it. The servers were friendly too. Upscale place.

“Wrong answer”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed December 6, 2013 via mobile

When you ask for a wine recommendation and are served, and subsequently charged for, a different, more expensive wine, the owner should: A) graciously apologize for the mix up on their part and reissue a corrected bill; or B) complain with obvious disdain that you should have looked more closely at the bottle when it was presented?

While we have never posted a response to any reviews (good or bad) I feel the need to clarify something on this review. While everyone is entitled to post their experiences, it is disappointing when people use this forum to only tell part of the story.
These guests enjoyed a nice dinner at Straw Hat. They ordered a bottle of Pinot Noir from our wine list. Our list is broken down into varieties and each bottle is listed by a bin number. All of our bottles are marked with the bin number in our wine room in order to avoid any mistakes that can happen. This guest ordered his wine by bin number, and was brought the bottle he asked for. As is the custom, the waiter brought the bottle, presented it to the guest to confirm it was what he ordered and opened the bottle when the guest agreed that this was indeed the bottle he had requested. The guest finished the bottle and ordered another bottle of the same wine. Again, the bottle was brought to the table, shown to the guest and opened and tasted before being poured for the rest of the table.
When the guest asked for the check he told the waiter that the wine listed on the check was not the wine he ordered. The waiter showed him the bottle on the table and pointed out that the wine on the check was indeed the bottle he ordered, approved (twice) and drank. The difference between the bottle he claims to have ordered and the one he drank was $10 per bottle.
I was made aware of the problem and, without even asking a question, I immediately took $20 off the check. I did this by taking two $10 glasses of wine off their check. My POS system does not allow me to modify an existing price and I wanted to make sure we had a record of the wine for inventory purposes, but I did issue the refund. I personally carried the check back to the table and explained to the guest what I had done to modify the bill. I apologized for any confusion and then showed the guest the bottle and said it would be helpful if they could check the bottle more carefully to avoid problems like this in the future. The guest said to me that he saw the words “Pinot Noir” on the label and so he assumed it was correct. Straw Hat has eight different bottles of Pinot Noir on our wine list and each bottle says the words Pinot Noir on the label. The prices run from $32 to $108.
We present the bottle to a guest for them to confirm that we have indeed brought them what they ordered. When they approve the bottle we serve it to the table. When this guest claimed that we had brought him the wrong wine we applied a discount immediately, with no questions asked, even though the guest had finished two bottles and had the bottle on the table to confirm.
The "correct answer" is that we did apologize and issue a corrected bill, and also pointed out to the guest that they do bear some responsibility for accepting the “wrong” wine. We brought them the correct wine (by bin number) and showed them the bottles before they were opened and consumed. We did not argue with the guest and, I think, we handled it quickly and professionally, without question or blame.

“Great atmosphere lunch or dinner”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 27, 2013

We have been here many times with family and friends. Food is great. A family friendly restaurant and they go out of their way to make your visit special. They actually went so far as to make us lactose free homemade ice cream. Armel is the waitress to say high to but all the staff is wonder full. Food is light, fresh, creative and you will be back for more.
