“Nice food, poor service”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 5, 2013

I have to agree with previous reviewers in that Café Rouge in Esher is not what it used to be. I have dined here fairly regularly for several years and although the food is still good, the service is terribly slow. Also there is not a nice atmosphere as the staff are so clearly overstretched and there is nothing "French" about it any more. We went most recently on a Saturday evening and had to wait ages to be served with anything at all. The menu is far smaller than it used to be but the prices have certainly gone up! In order to justify this, I think management should employ more staff at busy times.

“Going down hill fast”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed August 25, 2013 via mobile

This particular CF had a certain amount of flair, but for the last year it had been going down in quality fast. I link this directly to a downgrading of the kitchen staff from trained chefs to fry cooks. The children's menu is particularly poorly prepared - indeed it's pretty much inedible.
After being a loyal customer for quite some time I have to say I won't be back.

“Great service and food”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 2, 2013

Visited this restaurant on Derby Day at around 8.30pm. Had not booked but were made welcome and sat at a really nice table with the wife. Obviously this was not to her delight so we moved and they were very accommodating. We just had a couple of large red wines and two fillet steaks, one with salad the other with fries. The food and wine were excellent and the service exceptional. We have never been for an evening meal at a Cafe Rouge but were reasonably impressed. The interior was well presented and clean with nice music playing as well. Would highly recommend this restaurant.

“bad bad bad”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed June 2, 2013

Another bad experience in Cafe Rouge. Stake was done y someone that has no idea how to prepare a steak. I returned it, and they did try to make it better, but no luck.

Do not waste your money in this restaurant unless you go to the one in Villiers street next to Charing cross. Apparently this is the only one where the cook knows how to prepare a steak.

Better to look for other restaurants in that area.

“Great for family lunch”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 18, 2013

Mid-day Saturday in May and my wife, daughter and I wanted a good lunch. The food was excellent, the cost reasonable and the service was exemplary. Great atmosphere too.
