“Relies too much on it's location so doesn't even try.”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed September 18, 2013 via mobile

Unfortunately this is my local pub. It's in a great location and for this reason it is always fairly busy, but I wonder how fabulous it could be if they actually made an effort to provide quality food and customer service which was value for money. The beers on offer are generally good and well kept, but there are NEVER enough bar staff on duty and I often lose the will to live whilst waiting to be served. The food is of poor quality and extremely overpriced. No wonder this is rated the worst restaurant in Esher by Tripadvisor. The gardens could be a lovely spot in the summer if they were properly tended but they are sadly neglected and uncared for, another example of the pub just not making the effort. Such a waste of fantastic potential. They do host the odd summer garden party, but for the most part the village community are not catered for like a village pub should. Come on P.O.W, listen to the criticism, and act upon it, and you could be great. Pretty please??

“Prince of Wales pub in Esher”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed August 26, 2013

We have been to this pub many times before and as a special treat for our grandchildren we went there for lunch today. The service was appalling we were totally ignored by the staff even though it wasn't that busy. Eventually we managed to place our order and when it arrived it was minus a side dish and yet when we got our bill we had been charged for it. We had to ask for the table to be cleared after the meal as we wanted to order two puddings. At one of the tables in the restaurant there were two waitresses obviously taking a break one of them was lying down on a bench seat it made the place look very unprofessional.
We won't be going there again

“Pretty location, standard food at good value - NOT haute cuisine.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 12, 2013

We have visited the prince of wales twice in the last few weeks after a walk with the dog.

On the first occasion we were told when buying our drinks that they were understaffed due to illness and there may be a delay on food. we ordered quickly and the food didnt take long but it was apparent later that the delay was increasing for those who came after us. Food ok but good value - think virtually all of us ordered off the saver menu - fish and chips less than £6 - not bad.

On the second occasion the pub was much quieter but the meal seemed to take longer to arrive and frankly the staff do look like they dont know what is going on - generally pleasant but ineffective.

Don't think you can go wrong if you are expecting average pub food at good prices. Only one of our party didn't order off the standard menu and paid about £12 for their meal and frankly it wasn't worth it.

“Relies on the location!!!!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed August 3, 2013

Have eaten here quite a few times, food in the past always been good but something has happened. Never enough bar staff and have to wait for ages to be served. The toilets in all time I have been going have never been refurbished, they are disgusting and need ripping out, awful smell, worn out holes on the floor etc. Stop replying on your location Prince of Wales, with the right number of staff a good clean up, it could be a gold mine!!!

“Rubbish service / average food”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed July 14, 2013

Went here for a family meal on a Sunday lunchtime. The service was awful. The waitresses looked disinterested and didn't have any of the skills required to do the job. One even had to come back to ask how four of the party wanted their land cooked! The food was hit and miss. The lamb rump was good but inconsistently cooked as everyone ordered medium but some looked rare and others medium-well done. The roast where huge but the gammon was too salty and the other meats lacked flavour. I had the duck special which looked like a child's portion compared to the roasts! Duck breast was overlooked.
