“Very poor Hotel, very dated!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed October 6, 2009

Stopped in this Hotel October 2009 with 7 friends, all blokes on a cycling tour of the Somme. We booked because it was central to our planned cycle route. On arrival the receptionist (Carolyn) very miserable gave us 4 rooms all with double beds. After complaining for a while she re allocated us with the twin rooms we had originally booked. Rooms were very basic although reasonably clean. The hallway smelt very badly of staleness. Breakfast 8 euro's each consisted of bread and croissants with Jam. Some cereal was provided but ran out and wasn't topped up. The milk ran out also and when asked she went and got some more. This was a bottle of sterilised milk which smelt awful. For 8 euro's it was very poor so we cancelled breakfast for the next day. She then got very miserable and she made us pay for our final day up front. All in all a very poor experience. Unless you are very hard up i wouldn't recommend staying here

Booked this hotel through the Office de Tourisme in Le Touquet when they were full! Hesdin in a quiet typical French town and I would say that this hotel is a typical small French hotel. The rooms are basic but clean and well serviced. For the price we paid (58€ per night!) they were fine. Had no problems at all with the service, the manager was very friendly and helpful throughout despite seemingly working 24/7! What made this trip for us though was the restaurant. Very reasonable (18€) 3 course menu available with much more a la carte, good choice of wine and the important calvados in large glasses! They even have a vegetarian choice which is very unusual for France, you have to try the cafe gourmand as well if you don't fancy a large desert but want something with your coffee. Breakfast was extra at 8€ but good value buffet with croissants, bread, fruit, coffee and juice, yoghurts, cheese etc. They kept it open late when we misunderstood the times and had a lie-in on a weekday! All in all a pleasant stay, good value and excellent food.

This is the only time we have not been happy with a Logis de France hotel. We shouldn't have stayed, really, but we wanted to be in Hesdin and thought the Logis de France 'brand' would be ok. The woman who appeared to be the owner was not rude, exactly, but unsmiling and indifferent to everything except our credit card number. The room was cheap and a bit tatty - and we foolishly opened the window as it was so hot then spent the night chasing mosquitos and being bitten to death. Heaven knows where they came from as this is northern France and cold even in August - 14 degrees the whole three days we were there (not at this hotel, I hasten to add!) Breakfast was extra (8 euros) and minimal - we had to ask for croissants and they were crushed. She spent breakfast watching us to make sure we didn't steal the (cracked) cups - no help with how to work the coffee machine or anything. The only good thing about the hotel was we ate dinner there and it was excellent - pricey and served wiht no friendliness but good. But we will not be going back - 'la politesse' doesn't feature!
