“Great, Great, Great, returning in the fall”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 25, 2011

We spent nine days at the resort the first week of February. Had a great time, looking forward to returning in the fall. Never left the resort could have stayed another week.
We used our RCI exchange week, with a great unit overlooking the ocean. Nightly theme dinner parties, nightly entertainment, afternoon pool volleyball, etc. What more could you ask for.

Flew in to Santo Domingo, stayed the night, rented a car the next day for the 3 hour leisurely (stops along the way) drive to the resort in Abreu. WOW! Absolutely Gorgeous right on the ocean! We stayed with our friends in a lovely appointed two bedroom two bath cottage on the ocean. I particularly love the big 4 poster bed out front on the sand with perfectly crisp clean white sheets, a "bucket list moment" spending time on it, hearing the waves crashing watching the sun set and rise. Best surprise because didn't want to get hopes up, was the food!!! OM Gosh! Delish! and VERY acceptable wine! No complaints, would go back in a heartbeat! Met great other guests from all over..Yoga every am ocean always in view...a good book on the lounge chair, relaxing hot tubs...I could go on and on. We danced our butts off the first night we got there on a great open air dance floor with fun dance music. There are a lot of options to do whatever you do or don't want to do...

We stayed at this Fantastic Resort January 22 - 29, 2011. All we can say is that there is no compariing this resort to Hedonism or Desire.

The grounds are stunning, a la carte Food is delicious, and Staff very accomodating and professional. We were part of a large group that put the staff through it;s paces. They worked tirelessly to ensure all of our requests were met and never once stopped smiling. The new Collettes Caribe Club on the property promises to be a huge draw for all lifestyle couples who venture to this resort.

Before booking this resort, you must ensure that there is a sizaeable group going if you want an energetic atmosphere. This resort isnt quite as well known yet but is definately going to become a viable alternative to Hedonism and Desire Resorts once the word gets out.

Definately two thumbs up for this resort!

We returned to Caliente Caribe for the 2nd year, despite the weather issues we had last year. We moved our trip back 2 weeks in hopes of better weather and we got it. It was beautiful. Sunshine, 80's and only a few sprinkles one day.

What a difference a year and a new manager can make. Pat has done a wonderful job turning the resort around. The buildings were cleaned and painted. Maintenance issues were fixed. Along the waterfront from the small beach to the far end of the property the grass was removed and sand brought in to make a beautiful beachfront a good 20 yards deep. An outdoor bed was placed at the far end of the property and all the scrub and rocks cleared out for the sand. The beachfront was lined along the grass with the painted rocks cleared from the hillside. The physical appearance of the resort is 100% better.

Occupancy showed the benefits of the improvement. The beach was full of people as was the Tiki bar and the restaurant. It was never so crowded that we could not find chairs on the beach or a table for dinner, but there were lots of people around all enjoying themselves. It certainly made it a more lively place but not to the extent that it was obnoxious. It was a great balance. There were the standard activities during the day, volleyball, water aerobics, rock painting, Spanish lessons, testicle toss, coconut bowling, shuffleboard, horseshoes, yoga, palates, etc., etc. But if all you wanted to do was sit on the beach (as we did), the staff was polite enough not to bug you.

As for staff, it looked like pretty much the same folks that we saw last year. Good service, friendly, polite, helpful. All you wanted in an all inclusive resort. It's always nice to come back and see familiar faces who remember you. It says something about a place that can retain good employees.

The food was excellent. As with last year, this was some of the best food we have had at any resort. There are always 2-3 entrees for dinner and it is cooked to your order. The same for breakfast and lunch. Typically, lunch is at the beachfront Tiki bar with breakfast and dinner at the main restaurant. Friday night is a pig roast with a buffet of Dominican food. That's the only time there is a buffet at all.

Pat has also added a dinner for repeaters one night during the week. She gathers everyone together and has dinner with us. It's a great idea so ideas and comments can be freely shared. She and Fernando, the Assistant Manager, are ever present and always helpful. Our first night there the shower head came off in our room. Not a crisis, but it needed to be replaced. I brought it to Fernando on Sunday morning and it was replaced by Sunday afternoon. Unheard of efficiency in the Caribbean!!

The entertainment was greatly improved, as well. There was a very nice duo playing guitars and singing one night that got everybody going. Some guests even joined in and had great voices. There was a karaoke night, a newlywed game night (LOTS of fun), and other musical entertainment or dancing nightly. That was all at the main building, so if you were not interested, you could retire to the beachfront rooms and not be bothered by the noise. The Tiki bar on the beach was open after the entertainment was done, if you wanted a late night.

The ONLY issue we continue to have is the Wi-Fi. In the lobby there is a brand new Netgear at 54 Mbps. It works in the lobby only, though. Down on the beachfront, where we stayed in an ocean front room, there is an antique router running at 11 Mbps that had very spotty connections for laptops and that our iPhones would not connect to at all. It needs to be replaced with something much newer with repeaters placed 1/3 of the way down at each end to ensure good coverage. We are hoping that will happen soon.

There are more physical improvements on the way and Caliante Caribe is catering to more groups than in the past. If you are looking for a Lifestyles trip I would suggest you take a look here. If you are not into that (as we are not) it is still a great place to go. Although there were some folks who are swingers while we were there, it was never obvious nor were we ever bothered by anyone.

The bottom line on this is we have every intention of returning next year at about the same time. Good weather, good food, great location, and great service. Shows you how good management can make or break a resort.

Just got home and want to pass our comments on this wonderful resort. Having spent the major part of my life in the hospitality industry, I feel my review to be very accurate. Where do we start? The food, staff, villas, location, hot tub, tiki bar, privacy of the grounds, the scenic beauty were all first class. The staff was overworked for our group, but did everything they could to be on top of everything. It was a great group of americans and canadians that all gelled very well. Hats off to the following staff that even stepped it up a notch, Wellington, Diana, Jr. and David. The gift shop owner will get you anything you need, so accomodating, just ask, need a cab, jewelry, Cialis, etc.

The manager Patty, cudos to you and your staff. She is always there, making sure everyone is having a good time and everything is running smooth. I congratulated her a few times on the magnificent job they were all doing and she responded with a heart felt hug.

Now that being said, doubt we will ever go back to Hedo, why would we. Caliente Caribe blows Hedo out of the water in every aspect of the hospitality industry.

This resort was recommended to us as a nudist/lifestyle friendly Place. I was there a year and a half ago and recently had a chance to return to participate with a group.... We have been to Hedonism Jamaica and Desire in Mexico so we know how these resorts work. This is BY FAR a much better place in my opinion when you take into account all the pros and cons

We arrived at POP airport to find the guide waiting for us. They had drinks and snacks in the van and although the ride was about 50 minutes we got to know another couple that was also being taken to the resort. When we arrived we were greeted with fresh juice and an assortment of fruit. check-in went smooth and we were accompanied to our Villa. It was nicely appointed and the bellman tunred on the air and self contained Hot water unit. We really liked how the villa was appointed. Nice furnishings, and VERY SPACIOUS. TV, Phone, internet all worked well and although quite hot inside when we arrived the airconditioner cooled it down very fast.

We immediately went to eat lunch and it was VERY good. After lunch browsed the grounds and too my amazment this resort went from being average to being SPECTACULAR since it's renovation. The beach has been cleaned and widened and is beautiful! Better than 7 mile beach at Hedonism and Light years better than Desire. The pools and Hot tubs were clean and well maintained. there was a group of hot naked people playing in the Vollyball pool and the grounds over all were breathtaking. Loads of new landscaping and well manicured

Spent a week there and my overall opinion of the resort is that it has come a long way in just 18 months. The staff is exceptional. The food was nearly Gourmet quality, and all of the buildings were newly painted and refurbished from last year. Additionally there is a Brand new "on premise" swing club called Colette and we were blown away at how beautiful it is.

We will definitly be going back and quite likely make this a regular trip each year. We used to rotate Hedo and Desire on alternate years but the freedom this resort allows makes it a much better choice in our opinion.

Pick a week when there is a lifestyle group there. It makes all the difference. There were about 80 couples in our group and it was a blast!

Beautiful resort, well maintained grounds and landscaping, service with a smile and quality, fresh food. There was nothing not to like about this laidback resort. Enjoyed 4 days under a palm tree without a care in the world.
