We are in our late 50's and early 60's. Making reservations went well. When we emailed, they emailed right back each time. After booking, we were advised that part of the week we were scheduled for was a swing group take over time and we would probably see some sexual activities would ..... We aren't into that lifestyle, but are not offended by it either. so we will see some sexual activity on that day and after. It was ok with us so they booked the room. They also provided van service from and back to the the Santa Domingo airport as part of our reservations.
For it's a long trip from our local feeder airport to DFW to Miami and on to Santa Domingo and expensive too......The hotel van was waiting for us and it was an interesting 2 1/2 hour drive to the resort.... The drive went well, we never hit a scooter and saw interesting scenery...... The towns are definitely poor, 3rd worldish.... but the people all seemed nice.
The main building is an old general's palace and has the registration desk and main restaurant.. There is a disco in the building that was never open while we were there. Our reservations were correct, check in went well,, got the old fashioned key,, one key for us both.... Took walking tour with a registration person and by the time we go to the beach "villa" our bags were there... The main building was spotlessly clean!!!!
The resort is large and spreadout, lots of walking at times to get to dinner, etc.. Yes there are 58 steps from the beach level up to the main building with the restaurant area.
The rooms are pretty darn basic at best... The room was very clean but dated.......Tehy really need a bit of interior design care.... The TV, we never figured out and when we did get it on, there were no english stations.. we never planned to watch TV, so that was not a problem. The room's AC worked generally well, but if the power went off or blinked, which it did, you had to reset the AC to work again.. The first time, we had to call maintenance to show us how to do that and the maintenance people got there right away. The bedding, etc. was clean but definitely a bit worn.
They were all nice, no problem, but need more training and some really need english instruction.
There were not alot of people there when we arrived. Our reservations were from Wed. to Wed. with lifestylers arriving Sat.. Maybe only 1/3 occupancy. when we got there and full by Sat. The guest ages ran from 30's to 70's with the average ages maybe 50ish. .The lifestylers were not wild or really noticeable..... Maybe have the guests dress for the theme nights, once again no problems.. At meals, nude was fine but most people dressed somewhat.
Breakfasts were ok and up and I mean up at the main building (58 steps up from the beach villas). I liked the coffee and could order any combination of selections off the menu
Lunch was at the Tike hut/bar on the beach. There was not a lot of selection at lunch. Food not bad but not 2 star either.... Lunches were a bit weak until Sat when the hotel filled up and food got a bit better.
Dinner was back up the steps to the main building... (58 long tall steps, good exercise!) except for the pig roast,, not mine favorite but fun to watch.. (pig never done enough for me). At the main building dinners, food got better later in the week but still a poor selection... I figured out fast to order and mix and match courses to get enough to eat.
Booze was ok,, not exactly top shelf,, mixed drinks never were the same twice,, bartenders rotated (cross training with waitstaff and cleaning staff??) and definitely need training.. We never saw anyone doing any over drinking.
Service could be ok most of the time, but later in the week when they got busy, the help was overwhelmed, The resort needs another restaurant to spread the crowd out.. We would not go if the place was much more than 1/2 full.
Actually the entertainment at the pool outside of the main building in the evening was not so bad,,,, not 3 star, but not horrible either..:
The disco at the resort was not open while we were there.
The Collette Club was interesting.. We went and enjoyed ourselves. It’s a beautiful house.with a view, need to ride a van to get to it,, bad driveway.... Nice decor, nice dance floor... Really sexy. It has lifestyle playrooms that were definitely in use. Besure to check the place out if you are open minded a bit even if not in lifestyle
changes needed before we would return::
I doubt if we will be back soon.. They need more maintenance, decorating, landscaping, etc. Serious beach and sand raking is needed more regularly.... An electrician should check the whole place for safety.
A second restaurant is needed. Wait staff needs training, etc.
For us, the resort is too difficult to get to and too expensive for the food, rooms, etc.
The bay is beautiful. The site is not windy and is safe, secure and protected. There are plenty of beach and pool lounges. The employees are nice and try to be helpful when they are not overwhelmed with a full house.
The resort was clean and the pools and hot tub exceptionally clean!!!!
Don't get a villa behind or to either side of the Tiki Bar Hut... can be noisy and during the ni...
