Description: The Bruce Arms pub sits to the north side of the historic market square in Masham, North Yorkshire, offering real ales and a selection of spirits, lagers and wines along with homemade food. Our huge beer garden has a spectacular outlook over the River Ure and Lower Wensleydale, that’s why we call the Bruce Arms ‘the pub with a view’!We also have a children’s play area within the beer garden, while parts of it can be hired for free for outdoor events such as music concerts, theatre and dance shows.

“Average looking place”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 28, 2012

We came here in the afternoon whilst staying at the Millgate B&B and it felt distinctly average.. We tried out a couple of pubs to come back later that evening for dinner.. but opted for the Bay Horse over the road.. It had far more choice available.. What you get at the Bruce Arms is burger, burger or Large burger.. It was just lacking any sort of atmosphere.. although the play area/garden outside had very impressive views and I would imagine it would be lovely on a warm sunny day..

“Ordinary pub grub but good for kids.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 24, 2012

We arrived and sat in the beer garden to check out the views which we had been told about. One Grandson played on the children's swings, see-saw and adventure house. We had to wait an hour for the food when they said 20mins when ordering. We had a 14 month old and a 6 year old it was difficult to explain why their food was not on the table for 40 mins after returning inside. We ordered the steak and ale pie, gourmet burger and fish and chips for adults. Sausage and chips for the 6 year old and burger, chips and beans for the 14month old.The gourmet burger was raw except for the outside bite. The mash with the steak and ale pie was powdery and dry and no gravy arrived to moisten it. The fish, chips and small portion of mushy peas were average but no tarter sauce was available. All in all the free children's meals were finished by the adults and the un-edible food was left on the plates. The waitress who had been brought in early as it was so busy asked if everything was ok...we told her it was not, nicely, but no apology from the chef or owners. We had a lovely 9 days in Wensleydale but this spoilt our last day.

“Lovely”

The food and the service were excellent although it looks like a pub we felt it had the qualities of a restaurant.
