We arrived to the island of Panarea during a bare boat charter trip from Calabria, Italy. Found a buey near the port and head to shore. We looked for a place to have a drink with our two children and so this terrace facing the sea. Looked nice so we went up. We are experienced travellers but fell to this trap. First sign was that the place was completely empty while all the others were completely full. We set down and waited for a long time and when we saw that no one shows, we stood up and head to the exit, then came a person with the drinks menu (written on a wood plate). This was the second sign we should have quit but we unfortunately we didn't. All the menu were of cocktails, all priced at 13 dlls each plus 20% service! no soft drinks or beer.
Another group of person entered saw the menu and left!! (another sign we choose to ignore)
My wife ordered a margarita, my and my son a beer and my daughter a coke. We waited 10 more minutes for the drinks. Then asked for the bill and this is what we got - 10 dlls for each beer, 10 dlls for the coke !!!, 13 for the cocktail +plus service. the bill came up to 50 dlls (i guess that gave us a small discount, because with the 20% service it should have been more). this time, the bill was given to us by a woman who didn't speak a word in English so we couldn't even argue. We payed and left, but promised to write this review so others won't do the same mistake.
